Nintendo heating up heading into the holidays. Mario the top selling October game yet only available for 4 days in the calendar month.

FITgamer2351d ago

Wouldn't be surprised if they take November & December also.

Krangs_Uncle2351d ago (Edited 2351d ago )

They will.. It's the perfect Xmas present for the kids (but really it's for me).

ABizzel12351d ago

November and December will be a tough one for all 3.

PS4: $199
XBO: XBOs $189 / XBO-X $499
Switch: $299

Generally speaking price is the biggest drawpoint of sales during the holiday, and the PS4 and XBOs win that battle by far when it comes to value. The PS4 has consistently beat the XBO during the holiday seasons globally, but Xbox has the XBO-X this year to possibly get gamers who are looking to upgrade to help balance the numbers out.

While Nintendo has done extremely well with the Switch battling the PS4 for NA dominance month to month, it has it's work cut out for it going against the PS4 and XBO with both being $100 less.

It'll be very interesting to see who comes out on top in NPD and global.

FITgamer2351d ago

@Abizzle1 I originally though it would have a tough time this month. Now seeing how it immediately becomes the top selling console at pretty much every retailer as long as there is stock available, I think it's going to do better during BF than some probably think. Assuming they maintain stock through the month.

ABizzel12351d ago

As far as NPD goes I'd assume the numbers were somewhere as follows:

Switch: 360k
SNES: 220k
PS4: 190k
XBO: 130k
3DS: 100k

WelkinCole2351d ago

@Krangs_Uncle Ah the its for the kids excuse lol! Good on you. Bought mine on launched and have not regretted it one bit. Mario is the GOTY and deserves all the sales it gets.

JackieDrunken2351d ago

I definitely see them taking November and December. Mario Bundle should sell like hot cakes this Christmas! I think January and early 2018 should be interesting to see. Sony has God of War and some other big titles coming out so should be a pretty good battle between Nintendo and Sony in 2018. I think Nintendo would be smart to announce virtual console for 2018 and Super Smash deluxe for Switch. Crazy to have both Switch and SNES as top selling consoles for month! Glad to see Nintendo back and doing well. And healthy competition between video game companies only means we the gamers are in for some more great games!

Krangs_Uncle2351d ago

@WelkinCole

Ha, yeahhh, I can't wait..

I haven't played a Mario Kart in years!

Looking forward to wiping the smug look off my kid! Muahaha.

Anon19742350d ago

Picked up my Mario/Switch bundle when it was released as a Christmas present "for the kids." My son this morning on the way to school asked if we could sell the car to get a Switch as my line thus far has been "it's too expensive."

Shadow0172351d ago

I'm being gifted with one next week. Even though there isn't any Black Friday switch deals 😡

Nintentional2351d ago

They don’t need to give you deals and people will still buy them lol

hulk_bash19872351d ago (Edited 2351d ago )

Congrats to Nintendo for proving that they can bounce back strong after the meh WiiU. The Switch will be a powerhouse for the House of Mario and they deserve it. Now all they have to do is fix their archaic online service and overly strict policy copyright infringement system.

EddieNX 2351d ago

*Mr Burns saying eeeeexcelent !*

Aenea2350d ago

Well deserved tho, loving Mario!

IamTylerDurden12350d ago (Edited 2350d ago )

Shadow of War was the best selling game in October followed by AC and Super Mario Odyssey placed third. Look at the source of the article..

Per dollar amount and digital plus physical Mario was not the best seller.

Neonridr2350d ago

was #1 in individual sales. Shadow of War and Assassin's Creed are not separating by platform. Both were available on 3, Mario was available on 1. Try harder next time Tyler. Just accept the fact.

Mario will make Switch sell insanely high this holidays.

ZeroX98762351d ago

Plus Xenoblade Chronicles 2 in early December :)

Weeblordbad2351d ago

Not on the same level at all. People who think something like Xenoblade Chronicles 2 is going to have a visible effect on Switch sales are deranged.

zcmilano2351d ago

Nobody gives a flying fuck about xenoblade, lol. I get it, great game, great battle system.... but it isn't mainstream.

Prince_TFK2351d ago (Edited 2351d ago )

Well I do give a fuck about Xenoblade, and millions of other who had bought the game do too. Not every game need to be “mainstream” in order to sell and be great.

Watch as when the game is released it gonna fly on top of sale charts, especially in Japan.

Gemmol2351d ago (Edited 2351d ago )

Nintendo is a monster right now.....with Switch, Snes classic, and 3ds put together, they were responsible for 2/3 of all the hardware sold in October out of 1 million hardware sold

how did Mario take number 1 for October, it came out at the end of the month.....

Vgchartz numbers are confusing, if Switch is number 1 in north america, lets use october results for example, and with snes classic number 2, im guessing ps4 number 3 in hardware sales, and with Japan the Switch outsell ps4 by 150k to 250k a month..........this means if Switch only sell 100k in europe for a month then the ps4 must need to sell over 450k to 550k or more in Europe to beat out Switch in worldwide sales to make Vgchartz numbers correct that ps4 is beating Switch worldwide, and I highly doubt they sell that much hardware over there, unless Europe sells more hardware than America now....or xmas is early over there

or maybe someone can explain it to me

Eonjay2351d ago

Europe is Nintendo's weakest market and Sony's strongest. Even in countries like UK, it sell shockingly poorer than the competition. Europe is the single largest market. Sony could easily make up the difference. Also, they don't count SNES sales.

Neonridr2351d ago

yes but Mario still sold extremely well in the UK and will still help move some consoles. Sure it is their weakest market, but NA + Japan more than makes up for it.

Gemmol2351d ago (Edited 2351d ago )

so you saying, every month the ps4 is selling 450k to 550k or more a month in Europe alone for sony to keep their worldwide lead.......if that was the case, sony last reported figures would be much higher, but maybe you right, maybe Europe sells more hardware than America, but looking at VG chartz numbers for Europe september 30, 2017 the ps4 sold 22,265 hardware.....and Switch sold 7,856.....this means ps4 out sell the switch that week by 14,409, so lets say they outsell the switch by 15 thousands each week, that means at the end of the month.......europe based on VG Chartz numbers show that ps4 beat the Switch by 60k.........so theres no way the ps4 can out sell Switch every month when the Switch is beating ps4 by 200k or more each month

if you doubt japan numbers look at last two media create numbers this week switch beat the ps4 by 50 something thousand and switch won last week with 40 something thousand.....so it have a 100k lead in just 2 weeks worth of sales.....and if you count when mario odyssey launch 3 weeks ago the switch sold 100k more than ps4 and ps4 pro sales combine......so thats a 200k lead in japan against Sony, not counting their american lead........so theres no way ps4 selling 450k to 550k in europe

numbers not adding up

if Switch can continue to sell 200k more than ps4 every month in japan, it should catch ps4 in 1 year.......it can can complete this goal faster depending on the holidays if it can sell 300k or 400k more than ps4 a month ending November and December and January well

morganfell2351d ago

"...but looking at VG Chartz numbers..."

And this is where your point goes awry.

ABizzel12351d ago

@Gemmol

Apparently the PS4 is practically outselling the Switch and all other gaming hardware combined each month in EU, so yeah it's very likely. PS4 has been averaging over 100k units per week based on VG, and the Switch takes 2nd place with an average of over 40k per week (about 275k units in favor of PS4 per month).

In NA PS4 and Switch sales have generally been neck and neck with one or the other taking the lead after a big game launches (aka Mario this month, and Destiny 2 on PS4 last month).

And Switch outsells PS4 by an average of 20k units per month in JP (closer to 90k units depending on the weeks in the month) unless a big game launches for the Switch which can get up to that 250k units.

So yeah EU is making that big of a difference if the numbers are to be believed.

PS4 and Switch are practically neck and neck in NA month after month until one gets a AAA release.

The difference is EU overall sales average over 900k units per month, half of which the PS4 is responsible for alone (450k). Whereas JP averages around 500k units per month, where the Switch is just under half the overall number (250k). So a slight win in NA would still be a global win for PS4 considering it's always a close second in NA at worst.

Why o why2350d ago

'And this is where your point goes awry.'

😂😂😂

Was going to type something on those lines until I saw yours

Eonjay2351d ago

Yes. The best way to think about this is to say that Japan counts for 5% of Sony's sales. Also, North america counts for about 35% of their sales. Nearly 60% are Europe and other Asian countries. Now figure out the percentages for those same country for Nintendo and you see what is happening. For Switch to overtake the PS4 its gonna have to sell more in Europe. For reference, the same concept applies to Xbox. Xbox is majority US sales like 60% so it would have to win by such a lopsided margin in the US that its impossible for it to win.

Gemmol2351d ago (Edited 2351d ago )

I up vote you, and I will take your word for it, I honestly do not know how sales go on over there, I am only looking at numbers

I can give so many situations, heres another one, even if Switch sold 5,000 more systems than ps4 in america in a month worth of sales to be America top seller in NPD report, I am using the lowest win total possible.....and it still sell 200k more than ps4 in Japan in a month worth of sales........this means europe ps4 sales for the month would have to be over 200k to tie or past the Nintendo Switch

but if you read vgchartz september results for month of september the ps4 worldwide beat the Switch by 464,000

if Vgchartz numbers are correct so this means over 600k was sold in september in Europe to beat out the Switch

is 600k normal numbers for europe every month??????

does not make sense, unless you tell me its a holiday that month

there should of been a PR release unless thats normal outside holiday months

if this is normal I take back my comments

IamTylerDurden12350d ago

Europe is Sony land, it accounts for the majority of PS4 sales. Idk why ppl make such a big deal about NPD when it only accounts for America.

Eonjay2350d ago

Also, it turns out that the PS4 is still the top selling console in the US in 2017. So there is also that.

Aenea2350d ago

Well, several countries celebrate Saint Nicholas' birthday (of which Santa Claus is partly based) on December 5/6 with presents so some European countries will buy lots of presents earlier because of it.
Besides don't think sales between Europe and NA are that much off especially when lots of countries are thrown in with Europe region like Australia, tho not sure if vgchartz separates those but Sony doesn't, at least not for the digital store...

IamTylerDurden12350d ago

Shadow of War was the best selling game in October followed by AC Origins. This article is Nintendo PR literally, look at the article and read the source then do some research.

Kribwalker2350d ago

Can we talk about the elephant in the room.....What are your thoughts on Forza 7 outselling GTsport?

Only 4 days on the market and Mario cleaned up.

DANGGGG

MrMagz2351d ago

It did sell over 2 million in its first weekend worldwide, so it's safe to assume that it sold well over 1 million by the end of October in US alone.

Moonman2351d ago

Switchmas is in full effect. SNES still selling in 2017 is so......RAD while eating Pizzaria's....ah the 90's..lol

6 Fun Games Where You Actually Play As The Bad Guy

While the mainstream media always sees things turning in favor of the hero, here are 6 games that own being a bad guy.

Profchaos3h ago

Pretty much all of these games listed are based around a morality system you don't have to be bad and you don't have to be good.

It seems to have left out some real amazing games like red dead redemption 1/2,ass effect and true crime la/ny

Tacoboto2h ago

Armored Core VI?

Ok, I'm really missing something here. Just beat chapter 3 earlier this evening, unlocked A-rank Arena fights. I'm not seeing or sensing any branching paths or morality system and I've done every side mission and arena fight available to me up to that fight.

Is something big coming soon to branch the story?

banger882h ago

No mention of Grand Theft Auto? Saints Row (original trilogy), Manhunt? Also The Suffering (depending on the ending you get).
