8 is broken and if was released today it would have to be fixed. Only reason ppl look past it is because the nostalgia. It really isn't that good a game, especially is you play in active instead of the default wait mode

The timing. Makes me wonder if they are being competitive with THE LEGEND of heros trials of cold steel III which comes out SEP 25th in Japan. This game is the sweet heart of current turn based JRPG's. Let the fight for my money begin (even though I will get both). Not to mention blue reflection is coming out sep 25th in the USA.

Yeah that limited monster hunter pro console looks cool. It is like the ps2 era revisited in my view. Tons of interesting games in so many different genres. Something for everyone. A price cut before Xmas will give them another boost.

I hope they can up the frame-rate during battles, it was pretty horrible at around 20fps or so, and it really hurt my brain. One of the reasons I could not play FFIX again. I did like it a lot the first time through. First 20 hours were a bit boring, but after that it was superb.

I have an Asus Transformer which cost me 299€ a few years back and I do game a lot of GoG games on it, like HOMM II and III, so yeah I'm a PC gamer. They both run a steady 30fps!

I bought the Japanese N64 on release and played it to death.

Just sayin, the FPS in FFIX battles were worse than FFVII and FFVIII, because they wanted to put more effects in it. Once the fps drops under 24 hertz in games, it has said to cause nausea.

No need to get all defensive. Do some research instead.

Is square not making a remake of Final Fantasy 7 while also remaster Final Fantasy 7 that's on PlayStation 4 right now? For all you know after Final Fantasy 7 they're going to get the exact same team to remake Final Fantasy 8.

The general fan consensus is that 4, 7, and 9 are the best of the pre-modern FF games(before voice acting was introduced). 8 isn't exactly considered high up there in the same regard as 4, 7, and 9

Yes, I went and played 7 and ones before it, then got into 9. Only problem is, you hold the game that made you love this series to a higher standard, so when I went to any other FF, I was like "where is the draw system?" They had a ton of summons (GF's) and A lot of the fun in that game for me were searching for them. Hope a remake happens soon.

wow, imagine 3rd party / indie titles being available on other platforms...

A good game is a good game, regardless of what platform it might have been on. I welcome more titles, gives gamers more options, especially since a good chunk of Switch owners may not have owned a Wii U before it. So do we praise Shadow of the Colossus on the PS4 when it releases? Or do we give it the same treatment that games re-released on the Switch get? You can't have it both ways sadly.

You fishers missed the point, A remake or a re-release on any system is still that a remake and or a re-release. If you own a switch then you understand the appeal of that bringing any of those games whether it's a brand new game or a re-release is awesome to bring anywhere with you and to continue playing it at home as if it were a console. Neon, the people who bash the switch mostly, are people who don't own it and don't understand its point. Your point is valid, although remakes and re-releases have been getting heat for a while now. As cash grabs or something like that. But the thing is, people don't have to buy it if they don't want to. No need to get mad at them for releasing again if you're not gonna purchase it anyways. MoveOn And don't worry about it and buy that next assassins creed game that's gonna suck. Most Sony fanboys will defend the PSP and PlayStation vita as well. And it's just because it's Nintendo that beat everybody to it first that's why everybody's mad at them. LOL it's quite funny.

The Switch getting old ports is awesome for me. It's nice going back and playing games that I missed or games I want to play again from all gens, plus having new games from 3rd party companies and Nintendo exclusives. As time goes on, I hope we see ports from all consoles NES, SNES, N64, GC, Wii, Wii U, PS1, PS2, PS3, PS4, Xbox, 360, X1, Neo Geo, TG16, Sega, Genesis, Sega CD, Saturn, DC, PC. I know there are a lot of games on MS & Sony consoles that legally can't be ported to switch, but the ones that can are more than welcome. Imo

It is well worth it. I have replayed this game many times and started another run of it a few months ago until I got side tracked with PUBG.

To me it still holds up nicely, The only complaint I have is the battles intro, exit and spell casting are slow so after a while it can start to feel a little sluggish.But this is a problem with all the PS1 era FF games for me.

It's a fantastic game. IMO, it's story is much more intriguing than FFVII or VIII. It's much darker than its colorful graphics would lead one to believe.

IX was my first FF, and I have never been the same gamer since. With all the FFXV DLCs and spin-offs (We get it Tabata, you are making XV your very own Destiny), this latest FFIX version is like breathing in that dreamy and melancholic past! Just let it be available on the Asian PSN store, and you've got my money!

15 is action oriented, where you have alot of control on that one character, the older ones are turn based team fighting, think of play a deck card game, obviously more detailed but its not action based. My best recommendation is to youtube the gameplay and see for yourself

If you enjoy RPG's with menu and turn-based battle systems, then yes you should enjoy 9. It's very well liked by FF fans, and it's my personal favorite of the series.

Short answer: Probably Not, but maybe.

Long Answer: They are different styles of gameplay. If you like the turn based gameplay of other games then you will probably like this game. If you dont like turn based and prefer more ARPG then you might find it too slow. The story is good though. I would also have to say it depends on your expectations going in. I would suggest watching a youtube video of the game and a battle (NOT A BOSS BATTLE THOUGH). If you can handle watching someone else do 3-4 fights and see what its like then it will be worth it for the rest of the game.

Story wise, the story is much darker and much more fleshed out, with a cast of characters who are all important to the story in some way, instead of just a small group and some ancillary characters. The story may not seem that deep at first, but if you can get past the more colorful and stylized characters, compared to more modern and realistic looking FF games, then you should enjoy that part. It has a lot of the same sylish elements that you see in FF all around though. Airships and fantasy based sci-fi.

Game play wise, it's hard to say, as they are completely different in that regard. If you can't stomach a turn based system, even if it's somewhat real time through ATB, then you probably wouldn't. But if you can enjoy that sort of thing(and FFIX does it well), then you will probably enjoy the game regardless of your thoughts on FFXV.

Thing about FF is that each game is it's own thing, so sometimes comparisons can't be directly applied.

Going to get a ton of disagrees but 9 is so overrated. The battle system is a huge step back from 7 and especially 8. Big deal, you had to draw magic to remain strong in 8 but at least the battle system was fun and intense. Compare the kickass limit breaks of 8 to the bare bones, laughable ones in 9. Lionheart>>> Any 9 limit break. 9 is an awesome game though but man it's fans act like it's the 2nd coming and it's not.

Because it was the "second" coming to many fans. The ones who grew up playing Mystic Quest-VI, then VII came out and it has its own cult like following and then VIII went in a different direction and not everyone liked it. Then IX came out and felt like they went back to their roots i.e. "second" coming and then X and on have left it in the dust. So us fans who like the style have nothing after it and it was the best of both "OLD" story and gameplay in a 3d artistic world.

Square Enix likes to pretend they have a robust team which enables them to make all these off shoot projects when in reality they take 19 years to finish Final Fantasy 15 and we'll prob never see FF7 Remake or the new Kingdom Hearts for another 10 years when everyone is balls deep in VR/AR and/or dead from a meteor.

Remake, depends on the game really.
FF7 remake, the way it sounds like they will take out parts that people loved. Mostly Materia system. ( sounds like anyway )
A lot of people just want a update with todays graphics but leave the main game intact, which FF7 is a good example, game will be totally different!
Some say that's a good thing, some say it's a bad thing. Double edged buster sword.

But recently yeah it's been a poor cash grab scheme.

If 7 is anything like 15,.... Have nothing good to say then.

7, 8, and 9 all seem to have about equal love, although 7 gets more credit. Many people love all three, but most have variances on which one they think is best. Overall though, outside of some extremist, no one acts all indigent about it when someone else has a preference. They're all good games, just some people like or dislike different aspects of each on at different degrees.

Final Fantasy 9 has been available on PS4 for a long time but I am not getting this unless they remake it like Final Fantasy 7. I remember the days of trying to defeat Ozma. When I did it I knew my conquest was complete on that game once I beat it. This article is misleading click bait with that title. Square-Enix just advertised it to their Japanese audience does not mean they announced it today. This is not a remake but just a remaster port from the PS1 version.

I bought it once and the disc broke. Years later I played this on pc, it's a good game with a fun story. I don't know how it will hold up in this age of gamers, but if you like rpg's and you never got around playing this, try man.
