Call Of Duty: WWII Dares To Tackle The Holocaust

In the recently released story trailer for CoD: WWII there is a scene where the characters are clearly talking about the Holocaust. It seems Activision and Sledgehammer are looking to change your mind on the game by tackling the greatest horror of the great war.

It'd eventually have to in order to keep things interesting

morganfell2410d ago

They tackle the holocaust but are afraid of swastikas.

FullmetalRoyale2410d ago

Similar to my first thought. Such an odd decision to remove the rightfully offensive symbol in multiplayer.

LiamKreptic2410d ago

It’s offensive because you say it’s offensive. It is still used around the world for Buddhism and good luck. It was even used as a sign of good luck in the military during WW1. Just because it was used by nazis doesn’t make it offensive to everyone. Only YOU make things offensive.

FullmetalRoyale2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

@LiamKreptic
http://media.giphy.com/medi...

Reading your post below, I think maybe you misunderstand my stance.

The Nazi symbol is irrefutably offensive. While I acknowledge that fact, I don't support them not having it in the mp aspect of the game. Nazis are Nazis.

Gh05t2410d ago

@LiamKreptic

Its called context. I know people now days have so little of it but for someone talking like you do I would hope you understand the difference of why the symbol in the context of WWII Germany would be considered offensive to many and how that in no means RELATES to the context of seeing it all over multiple temples, painted on the side of WWI planes, or hung in houses of people from varying backgrounds.

Yes offense is taken, but decent people everywhere shouldn't have neutral feelings about a symbol in the context of Nazis as opposed to the context of a symbol for luck. I dont walk up to a Nazi with the symbol tattooed on them and ask for a high five because we both want good luck. That symbol to them means something else and context is important.

neocores80552410d ago

Well in the new trailer at the end they put the SAWSTIKAS back in so OBVI you have not seen the new trailer

morganfell2410d ago

Obviously I have. But they pulled the Swastikas in MP and they are still pulled in MP and they pulled them for the SP and MP trailers at TGS. Obviously you haven't seen those and obviously you haven't kept up with the development of the game. And they are called SWASTIKAS.

ShadowWolf7122410d ago

@morganfell

They've pulled them in regions where they're not allowed to show them.

MP is worldwide wo they did it there as well so as to avoid being banned in multiple countries.

Get a grip.

morganfell2410d ago

Plenty of games use Swastikas. Including US games. No one bans them. Get a grip.

Genuine-User2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

The use of a Swastika symbol is banned in Germany. The only Nazi imagery you’ll find is in exhibits devoted to understanding the horror of the period.

meka26112410d ago

Not only that but other things they are putting in that are nowhere near accurate. So yea it's barely about the holocaust now lol.

Christopher2410d ago

Because it's not allowed in some countries and the focus is on people and not symbols. But, hey, we're stupid and don't know they're Nazis without that symbol being shoved into our view every second.

LiamKreptic2410d ago

It was in WaW so why is t it now? You all offended by the most minute things. Stop being big babies jesus.

morganfell2410d ago

Disassociation from the characteristics that identify evil is never a good choice. History books are replete with photos of Swastikas. There are young people that will play this game who know nothing of WWII. How does changing the symbol of evil help them understand what occurred and what was facing the world? I know, let's make evil more palatable and less distasteful by removing the object that was used to represent something so foul.

Gh05t2410d ago

Its a WWII game... if the symbol isnt allowed in the country maybe they shouldnt play the game in general or are you saying they are too stupid to not know its actually Nazi's and that was the symbol they used?

Killing German soldiers is fine but if they have the banner that they fought under all the sudden we have crossed a line, like we are too stupid to know they were Nazis? People drawing a line at the symbol that represents who the people were is ridiculousness.

Christopher2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

***History books are replete with photos of Swastikas. ***

Battle fields are rarely stockpiles of swastika flags.

How many swastikas were there in Schindler's List? Inglorious Bastards?

Swastikas are in the game, specifically the story, just not thrown everywhere.

The reason history books are filled with swastikas is because they focus a lot of photos on the massive military gatherings when Hitler or similar were giving speeches or the like (that whole propaganda thing).

RememberThe3572409d ago

At risk of sounding like a teacher's pet, I gotta go with Christopher on this. Having the swastika in the campaign makes sense where there is historical context but honestly, I don't have a problem with them taking it out of the multiplayer. Seems like they are leaving it out for because of the neo-nazis than anyone who would complain about the imagery. Nazis suck and anything that would pump them up should be frowned upon.

BenjaMan642410d ago

Swastikas are missing only from multiplayer. They're still in single player.

KickSpinFilter2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

Did you even watch this video swastikas all over the place in SP.
Just not in MP, and that's fine who cares.

81BX2410d ago (Edited 2410d ago )

https://youtu.be/a9ITIaKzG3...

You must not have seen the new trailer. They have swastikas my dude

Edit: seen below you have. Normally you seem level headed but you are getting way too outta shape about this my friend.

ziggurcat2409d ago

@ morganfell:

that's oversimplifying the situation a bit. the nazi swastikas are in the SP campaign in just about every region, so clearly they're not afraid of them. as other have pointed out, the nazi swastika has been banned in certain countries, so it's not in those regions for the SP campaign, and they just removed it from MP altogether since I think it would complicate things from a code perspective to have it in some regions, but not others.

the other thing is that the holocaust isn't offensive - it's an event that happened, it's not a symbol that represents hateful ideology (and please do note that I'm referring only to the nazi swastika, not the other, positive ones that are historically used in a variety of different religions).

I never thought I would be potentially buying cod again but here we are

opinionated2410d ago

Because of this? Why did talking about the holocaust change your mind? If you don't mind me asking.

ziggurcat2410d ago

maybe he's a WWII history buff. I will probably buy this game because I enjoy history-based shooters, and I have never purchased a CoD game. the only CoD game (which I rented) I have actually played all the way through has been WaW.

EazyC2410d ago

He was referring to the trailer I imagine.

opinionated2410d ago

@ziggur
I wasn't attacking the dude, there is no need to defend him through guessing lol. I was just asking if this holocaust thing is what made him change his mind and I was curious as to why it flipped that switch.

lipton1012410d ago

The toxicity here is unparalleled. Wow. Maybe people enjoy WWII games after a decade long drought.

opinionated2410d ago

The toxicity? What a clownish thing to say. Wtf is wrong with you people lmao. I can't ask somebody a question? Get over yourselves.

ziggurcat2409d ago

Oh, I never said you were attacking him. Nothing about what you posted was wrong.

Profchaos2409d ago

Because the trailer honestly impressed me it's been so many years since a developer has tackled WW2 and added such emotional weight to the story of it manages to treat it with respect and dignity without sacrificing the honesty about how brutal this war really was and prevent the game from turning into another cod wave shooting gallery it could be a really deep experience (from what I can see after the trailer).
And yes history interests me those who do not learn history are due to repeat it after all.

Chaosdreams2410d ago

Like sugar, it's nice to have every now and then, but overall, it's bad for you.

Don't give in. You'll regret it. We see it every year.

lipton1012410d ago

Nah. The War game mode is the real deal.

TDM and Dom, all more of the same. War though feels like an entirely new game. And with the way it's set up, I 100% guarantee we're going to see a beach landing map that moves from the beaches inland. War is the best game mode call of duty has ever had. Reminds me of old school day of defeat. No killstreaks, no random spawns behind you. Fun, objective based gameplay that progresses the map once captured.

Miss out on it all you want. Your loss, not mine.

lipton1012410d ago

I hate call of duty but I've already preordered this.

I can care less about the standard TDM and domination but the War game mode felt like playing old school Day of Defeat again. I totally fell in love with it

mafiahajeri2409d ago

Yeah!! The war game mode was the shitttttt!! Especially when you build walls to keep your enmies out. Really realistic and immersive... ;)

Black0ut2409d ago (Edited 2409d ago )

I say that every time too, yet end up buying them cos there's definitely a fun appeal to most of their releases. Im just glad that were partially through the oversaturated futuristic stuff cos hot damn...

SixFragz2409d ago (Edited 2409d ago )

WWII dares to tackle the Holocaust.

"I never thought I would be potentially buying cod again but here we are" -micbrc

With 9 upvotes atm.

I have so many questions but I'm not sure where to begin.

Profchaos2409d ago

Then just ask them.
The trailer brought some actual emotional depth to cod for the first time since well world at war maybe. It's an honest look at a time period that was horrific but shouldn't be forgotten

Juiceid2409d ago

WW2 games are due for a resurgence.

PlayStation Summer Sale Gets Even Bigger

The PlayStation Summer sale expands with a load of new discounts.

Aloymetal995d ago (Edited 995d ago )

Including indies I’ve bought like more than 20 games, good deals all around.

P_Bomb995d ago

I’ve overindulged too! Gonna pump the brakes on this next round. Unless there’s a PS+ discount. Need a cheap sub for my kid so I’m not always changing primaries.

solideagle995d ago (Edited 995d ago )

could you please suggest good indie games (which are on sale)? I love JRPGs or action RPGs but I can play almost any genre e.g. Transistor is £3.74 which I think is a steal :)

shinoff2183995d ago

Check out earthlock. Its pretty good

Old school jrpg try cosmic star heroine I really like that one

Aloymetal995d ago

Disco elysium, man eater, inside, limbo
Dead cells, observer, to name a few

LoveSpuds994d ago

Don't sleep on Darkest Dungeon, Child of Morta or Spiritfarer.

Although it won't be on sale, the best indie I have ever played is release in a week or so, it may be 20 quid but you have to play Hades.

GhostofHorizon995d ago

Told my partner to stop me from browsing. We'll see how that goes, the first part of the sale already got me.

ElvisHuxley995d ago (Edited 995d ago )

Anthem 85% off? Thought they went free to play. Has the game gotten any better?
Edit-Nvm, it's Europe anyway.

Hellcat2020995d ago

The second phase of sales is for all regions
It's just not yet showing up in the ps store

Servbot41995d ago

They abandoned Anthem. Typical EA.

CobraKai994d ago

I can’t believe they’re still trying to sell it

BioShockGX994d ago

Got Anthem for $5 last year. Not a bad game for that price lol

ElvisHuxley993d ago

Appreciate the downvotes folks. I guess merely asking a question bothers the incredibly mature users here.

anast995d ago

I might finally go for Black Desert. I've been playing ESO (without MTing my characters) for some throw away entertainment, but the combat is so "#$&&%.

Servbot41995d ago

BDO sucks. Only good for the character creator.

anast995d ago

Is the combat worth it?

Phoenixryu995d ago

I tried BDO a few months ago. It's a decent game but I got bored of it pretty quickly. Combat is very action-based, it's fun but very repetitive. There are a lot of menus and most of the in-game systems are a bit more complicated than they needed to be. Some game modes won't let you buy and sell certain items until you convert to a different mode etc. Basically, the game is kind of convoluted.

phoenixwing995d ago

The mobs barely react in bdo. You can kill half of a mob of enemies before they'll even attack. You'll basically be grinding mobs until you can fight a boss that will even react well. Don't recommend it

anast993d ago

Thanks. Is there an alternative to ESO?

phoenixwing993d ago

@anast I'd recommend playing the single player version of es if you haven't exhausted your playthroughs

EvertonFC995d ago

Highly recommend the "metro saga bundle" £25 all 3 games and all DLC plus free upgrade for ps5 exodus 😊
