Such a original console and I love seeing the new type of accessories being made for this :)

_-EDMIX-_2493d ago

"Such a original console"

Its great portable, but I would not call outing to the TV "original". Not even slightly.

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

soooooooo yea.

I'm sure its a great handheld, but "original"...it is not.

LightofDarkness2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

The PSP was not designed to be played that way, though. You had to sit there with it in your hands, plugged in to both AC power and TV via the TV out, then tell it to output to TV by holding the TV icon until it appeared.

The Switch seamlessly and without interruption switches contexts from TV to portable by simply having it in or outside the dock. You also don't have to hold the entire console in your hands, and this is all done without wires.

And if you're so in to splitting hairs, the Super Nintendo had a Gameboy Color adapter called the Super Gameboy that allowed you to play the games on a TV way back in 1994.

What's original about it is that it is perfectly designed to be both a home console and a portable. No hoops to jump through or special connections; out of the box, it will work as both.

Realplaya2493d ago

The manufacturer of the console called it a console so who are you to call it something different?

Sitdown2493d ago

Well now we know how you got your name, because you just blinded EDMIX with knowledge!

darthv722493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

Sega nomad did the same as the PSP for TV out where you had to hold it in your hands while playing. Bonus points was you could plug in a 2nd controller for two player.

PSP GO is more akin to the Switch than the other PSP models. You can dock it to a tv and use a real sixaxis controller for better comfort and control. I still use my GO that way.

_-EDMIX-_2493d ago

@Light- thats nice.

"The Switch seamlessly and without interruption switches contexts from TV" The concept is the same though.
What you are saying is moot.

Where they suppose to be dated? Why would it be less technical then from 2009? It is expected for it to be advanced enough to be seamless, that doesn't remove the fact that you are outing to a TV, simply Switch is doing it better, not first.

"You also don't have to hold the entire console in your hands, and this is all done without wires"

https://www.youtube.com/wat...

my b, my b lol

The PSP GO can do this too.

"the Super Nintendo had a Gameboy Color adapter called the Super Gameboy that allowed you to play the games on a TV way back in 1994"

That allowed you to play Gameboy games on TV, that didn't turn your Gameboy literally into a device that could play it off the TV.

Darth is correct as the Sega Nomad did the same thing as PSP, as Switch etc.

"What's original about it is that it is perfectly designed to be both a home console and a portable"

Back in 2009, same can be stated about PSP. Switch techonlaogically being better is MOOT to the concept of what is being done.

By default it will be more advanced.

If PSP3 comes out and has the Cradle packed in and uses a OLED screen, you going to say thats "original" even though the Switch is that minus the screen type?

We are not saying they are SPEC BY SPEC the same, we are simply saying they are doing the same things.

"work as both"

Well the PSP could too back in 2009 bud.

Switch isn't even playing demanding games that you see on PS4 or XONE, its playing last gen games.

Just like PSP was playing PS1 and PS2 type games lol

" You had to sit there with" Thats nice. This isn't about "how" its done, this is simply about it being able to be done at all bud.

Not sure why your splitting hairs LMFAO! BOTH could play portable games on the TV.

Thats like being as stupid as saying 2 TVs are not doing the same thing be like "Vizio TVs was not designed to be played that way, though. You had to sit there with it in your hands and turn the power on the remote with the left side, not da right doe"

Yes, oh yes..VASTLY different /s

JunMei2493d ago

But being higher fidelity while outing to the TV IS new, though.

Krysis2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

Oh please, Sony's crap handhelds were never in the same league as the switch is now and dude the novels you write when you get shut down are hilarious, you know no-one reads that mess right.

segamaniaco2493d ago

Sega Master System portable played WIRELESS on TV ages ago

https://encrypted-tbn0.gsta...

NotoriousWhiz2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

It's the combination of features that makes it original. Taking a single feature by itself doesn't scratch the surface of what it can do.

Are you going to tell me that a peanut butter pizza isn't original because cheese pizza exists and PB&Js exist? Sometimes, originality is determined by the combination of features provided.

Neonridr2493d ago

@EDMIX - utilizing a feature that was added at a later date is not the same as something that was built with it from day one. That's like saying that the PS Vita + PS4 accomplishes the same thing as a Switch. While it's similar and can replicate *some* features, it's still vastly different (not to mention a hell of a lot more expensive).

I don't know why you try so hard to put down the Switch. We get it, it's not for you. You don't need to put on such a production about it. Just be happy with your PS4s (and 4 or 5 PS3s or whatever you said you have) and move on. No sense in putting other people down because they don't share your same tastes and opinions. I would hate to live in a world if we all thought and acted the same as you did.

You don't ALWAYS have to be right, so stop hammering home points that aren't relevant.

MASTER_RAIDEN2493d ago

why would you even link a video of the psp? thats not "original" either considering Nintendo's own GAMEBOY games have played on TV screens since before playstation even existed as a brand.

ocelot072493d ago

Don't forget the Neo Geo X that did the who portable to TV thing as well.

343_Guilty_Spark2493d ago

Sega Nomad had this capability ages ago long before PSP. You could even plug in another controller.

IceKoldKilla2493d ago

@LightofDarkness

You just proved his point. It's not original. It's an improved idea but not original. Besides, most ideas in this day and age are far from original.

Kribwalker2493d ago

@big_dom
Edmix's number one problem with Nintendo is that the word Sony doesn't appear anywhere in the name. That's it. It would be revolutionary if it did have that name.

0Day2493d ago

Clearly you youngsters haven't heard of the Sega Nomad...

_-EDMIX-_2492d ago (Edited 2492d ago )

Many devices have clearly done this before and reading the comments it's even more devices that I even realized like I didn't know the Neo Geo had something like that.

@neo- if they got put down by my comment that's their emotional issue not mine.

At the end of the day there's a bunch of systems that I've done this before I mean consider that many of the comments are stating even the PSP in regards to concept is unoriginal do you see me crying? No because the Neo Geo clearly did it because the Sega Nomad did it before and even in different concepts the Gameboy player did it so at the end of the day it's not as if I'm saying it's only the PSP I'm saying other devices have actually done this.

So to be clear this is simply about its unoriginality.

Conceptually it essentially is just a more advanced version of those older Concepts and there's nothing wrong with that I mean consider the PlayStation 4 is just a more advanced concept that we've already had for the last 15 plus years.

Nothing's wrong with that either.

Mind you I actually still plan to purchase the switch because I enjoy my PSP and I understand this concept because it's exactly what I do verbatim with my PSP anyway.

So the method of connecting it is not even relevant to me at the end of the day the concept of playing on my television is something I'm familiar with with handheld devices like my PSP.

I mean some of you guys legitimately need to stop getting your feelings hurt because of this device basically having a function that several other Portables have had.

I mean nothing is really wrong with that I would argue that's why I'm even buying the switch because of how much I liked that feature on PSP I actually didn't even buy the Vita simply because of one of the reasons was that it lacked that functionality. I actually ended up buying a 3DS instead 😂😂😂

Sooooo yea. Stop getting your feelings hurt because people won't Proclaim this as revolutionary. It's not bad but by no means is it original and by no means are they the first to ever do this concept.

I hate them so much I bought the 3DS? I hate them so much I'm buying the switch because of this feature that I enjoyed on other platforms?

Ok folks.

If so many Nintendo fans love Nintendo why didn't they buy the Wii U? Or was that me too? 😁

You guys need to understand that there's lots of Nintendo fans that very much are going to criticize the company and are very realistic on how they feel about this device will also still being a fan of the device, that doesn't actually mean I need to go around praising it or inducting myself into the cult.

I'm simply not exaggerating its features. I mean I'm not telling you there's a single thing revolutionary about PlayStation 4 because there isn't there's absolutely nothing revolutionary about that platform but that's generally why I like it it's simply just an evolution of what I'm familiar with and I'm completely fine with that.

Consider I'm also fine with that with the switch.

Once again so we're clear I'm simply confirming that this is not original by any stretch of the imagination but I'm also never stating anything remotely as if PlayStation 4 is 100% original in concept it very much is not.

I mean looking at the comments even the PSP outing to the TV wasn't original....

It's a portable TV dock for a handheld, are you in denial??

segamaniaco2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

The core is portable, so the switch is a portable game machine that can run on tv through another device (the dock)

You can sell your dock and it continues fully playable

badz1492493d ago

Nintendo fanboys call everything Nintendo as original. even the new Mario is original to them. such simple minds so easily manipulated by Nintendo.

there has never been a console which needs these many side purchases on launch day! THAT is original!

Prince_TFK2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

I bought a Switch and then a copy of BOTW on launch day and guess what? I can play it fine without any additional accessories. I know, shocking right?

Oh and if you haven't notice or haven't seen the new Mario trailer, go back and watch it. Even Mario's ghost hat is an original idea as it has never appeared in any of the old Mario games before.

badz1492493d ago

"Even Mario's ghost hat is an original idea as it has never appeared in any of the old Mario games before"

LOL Nintendo knew there's only so much that can be done with Mario before people get fed up with it. now, instead of making a new IP with a new character that expands from what is capable by Mario AND still unsure if it will sell, make Mario possess them with his hat which was just a regular hat made from a cloth before but now suddenly has soul and will you look at that...fans totally gonna buy it because it's Mario!

like I said...simple minds! Only Nintendo can get away with this practice. just imagine if Naughty Dogs made a game where Nathan Drake found an ancient artifact that allows him to shape shift or posses other people to gain new abilities...people will quick to call them "milking it". don't trust me? remember when they first announced Uncharted pinball? yeah...THAT was the reaction. even calling them "out of ideas". true story. the different standards given to Nintendo is pathetic!

Razzer2493d ago

They are not needed. You can play games just fine on the console without buying a single accessory.

All these people yapping about stuff they don't know. lol

GordonKnight2493d ago

It's just video games you shouldn't take it so seriously. Everyone can tell your butt is seriously hurt by how well the Nintendo switch is selling.

The dock is small, and certainly cheaper than the standard dock. But it doesn't have any USB ports.

I would like a small travel dock, but I'll have to pass and wait for a different one. Such a shame.

samden2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

I saw this in an ArsTechnica article about the dock:

"(Update, 2:33 p.m.: After this article went live, a Nyko representative contacted Ars via e-mail to indicate that two USB ports will be added to the PDK by the time it launches, and possibly more.)"

porkChop2493d ago

Ah ok, that's good to know. That's much better, thank you.

Lighter92494d ago

I'll save an extra $44.99 and not buy it. 😏

deafdani2494d ago (Edited 2494d ago )

It won't save you a fortune, only 10 bucks. It doesn't include the Switch AC adapter (which costs $30) or an HDMI cable (let's say 5 bucks).

So, you would be paying $80 in total for the full set, and it would be a non-official product, without Nintendo's warranty, and no USB ports to boot.

Yeah, if you want an extra dock, you're better off spending 10 dollars more to get the official Nintendo one, which already includes the AC Adapter and HDMI cable.

Eldyraen2494d ago (Edited 2494d ago )

If you use it as a portable for any length of time you probably already have a second charger.

AZRoboto2493d ago

It includes a USB c adapter and an HDMI cable

deafdani2493d ago

You're right, I just went to Nyko's website and it does say it includes those.

However, it's not my fault because the article itself said this:

"Unlike the official Nintendo Switch TV Dock, it doesn't come with a spare HDMI cable and AC Adaptor."

:/

samden2493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

The Switch (and this dock) comes with these cables....

deafdani2493d ago

Yeah, I just realised this upon checking Nyko's website. My previous comment was incorrect, because I had incorrect information coming from the article itself, which claims that:

"Unlike the official Nintendo Switch TV Dock, it doesn't come with a spare HDMI cable and AC Adaptor."

I don't know why they wrote that. :/

Nodoze2494d ago (Edited 2494d ago )

Sad when the plethora of 3rd party accessories are in better supply than the console itself. At this point they are selling accessories for consoles that don't even exist after a short initial production run.

Oh, and this will save me money....because I CAN'T BUY A SWITCH. Nobody can.

SirBradders2494d ago

I just got mine of game website in UK.

There in limited stock but it if you look there easy enough to get.

Juiceid2493d ago

I live in Illinois, every time I go to gamestop, Best Buy, or target, there is at least one on the shelf.

Gh05t2493d ago

Gamestop had bundles for sale this whole week with a ship by date of June 30th. They had one bundle left this morning still.

LAWSON722493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

You know why?

Nobody wanted the family bundle with valueless crap games, nor do people want to be forced into getting accessories and even games like Arms (it is not for everyone).

An entry fee for a console is high enough for most people, there is also the fact nobody wants to shop on GS website.

Gh05t2493d ago

Yeah I am really sorry I got a switch with Zelda and the DLC and a pro controller... how terrible (As if thats not what I would have got with my switch if I went to the store).

They had better bundles just two days ago, my point was they arent impossible to get and most of them are a good deal since most people buy the stuff together anyways.

Haki11122493d ago

Stop using gamestop as your main source branch out I just walked outta a walmart with 6 on the shelf

LAWSON722493d ago (Edited 2493d ago )

If you are in the states call all the Targets within a reasonable distance. Also they told me they get more every Friday. I called 3 stores and one of them had 2 left . Considering they were stocked 5 days prior, a more populated area store btw, I guess many don't even bother checking there

There's a reason they're called 'gods' and not 'regular people'. It's nice they've diversified even more but gods looking godly wasn't exactly a glaring issue with the first game.

Juancho513h ago

Hey! Gods suffer from obesity and diabetes too!

Blastoise3h ago

This is the dumbest article I've read in a long time.

Michiel19892h ago

No one had an issue with that besides a very select group of people that try to push their own agenda.

Crows902h ago

Exactly. Not even sure they're necessarily committing to body diversity either.

The designs look fine not stupid.

Inverno1h ago

The writer of the this article clearly doesn't know what a real god looks like and has never seen them /s

Tody_ZA1h ago

Thanks for bringing up a bunch of garbage thoughts that never crossed my mind when playing the first game because I was too busy playing the game to worry about the portrayal of the physical bodies of gods.

Foolish me, when I read the title I thought we were talking about game mechanics.

Piss off, honestly, with this asinine bottom of the barrel try-hard-to-be-relevant trash.
