Why We're Not Entirely Sold On God Of War

There is no doubting that God of War is one of the bigger titles showcased at E3. While we already knew it existed, it was nice to see more footage of the game in action. Still, we are not entirely convinced that this new entry in the God of War franchise can live up to its predecessors.

Sucks for you,I and millions others are sold and can't wait for this game. it looks great and looks like the kind of refresh the game needs

madforaday2500d ago

When I first heard that there will be a new GOW I was like ehh I wonder what they can do now... When i first saw that trailer that first came out. I was like yep, Day 1, I just wanted something different in GOW and that is what I got. Of course, you will have people who don't like change which is fine but this still is going to be a very polished game.

solideagle2500d ago

Same feeling here completed all GOW titles on very hard as well but its time to change direction which i really like. I m pretty sure while playing it we will miss blades of athena we will see

Gamist2dot02500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

Felt the same way, but what got me more intrigued about the game is when Kratos prepares to take on the giant serpent and the son says "He's wants to help us!" I thought the story is going to be epic.

kfk2499d ago

@Gamist2dot0:
Yeah, if they need the World Serpent's help, then what exactly are they going up against?

UltraNova2499d ago (Edited 2499d ago )

Kfk,

Its the first game situated in Norse mythos so I'd say Loki...

Game looks stunning. I couldn't expect anything less from Sony's studios.

Reason #1 you're not sold on GoW. You never liked or played them to begin with

I will admit, not having the blades is a bit worrisome but w/o doubt Santa Monica Studios will find a way to make the combat with those Axes [and whatever else] great. This game is going be another Epic GoW title.

AustinFern2500d ago

Actually, the reason I'm cautious about it is because I've played and loved the other games. Things are certainly going to be different this time around and I don't want to assume that everything is going to be a good different. I'm excited that they are trying something new, but I'm still going to be cautious about it rather than assume that everything is going to be just as good or better than before. That is how you get burned. I'm excited to see how the game is and I have hope that it will be a great game, I'm just going to be cautious until I get more information.

rainslacker2500d ago

I've always been a casual fan of the series, but this new direction with a potentially stronger story is more my thing. Definately excited for it, and the story element is something I"ve been saying for forever needed a revamp.

AustinFern2500d ago

I do welcome stronger storytelling. The father/son combination is a risky move, however, and I need to see just how well they pull it off without it becoming annoying. If done well, it will be amazing. If not, however, then it could really hurt the game.

Have faith, my friend. Hopefully PSX will have playable God Of War demo.

thatguyhayat2500d ago

Lately their best games get announced there

AnubisG2500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

PSX 2016:

TLoU2
Lost Legacy (Uncharted DLC)
Knack 2

E3 2016:

Crash Bandicoot N Sane Trilogy
God of War
Spiderman
Days Gone
Detorit: Become Human
Death Stranding
Horizon Zero Dawn
Resident Evil 7
The Last Guardian with release date

Why do people say that Sony is announcing their best at PSX? It's like peoples memories are completely wiped from last years E3 by TLoU2 announcement. They showed 2 new games at PSX last year guys as opposed to 9 at E3 last year. Stop saying that PSX is where Sonys best is. It's not. It was crap last year compared to E3. Unless they held a PSX that I did not hear about, I don't get why people say that PSX is the shit.

GrubsterBeater2500d ago

@Anubis

True. Although I do believe that they are gonna show a great deal of new, exciting games at this year's PSX.

AnubisG2499d ago

@GrubsterBeater,

Could be and hopefully they do. It would be great. But as of now, that is just speculation.

There isn't anything much different in terms of combat to expect. It's an action game. That being said, the setting and graphics are enough for anyone. The game will sell off its name alone. It's going to sell more than a mill week one.

UltraNova2499d ago

"There isn't anything much different in terms of combat to expect. "

No offense but when did you stop buying FPS games? 2005...2006?

You may be right not to be. I had enough of the one dimensional Kratos and Greece setting. It was cool when I was a teenager. Now I'm in my 26 and I'm glad I'm getting something fresh in the series.

Amd knowing SSM, they are going to deliver!

AustinFern2500d ago

Kratos in the first God of War was actually a pretty cool character, but he did become less of the focus as the action took over, which I didn't mind too much because the action was so incredible.

The new Norse setting is actually very exciting and why I've been disappointed in the trailer so far. Nothing seems to take full advantage of the different settings and everything I've seen so far just seems like slightly different versions of creatures and items from the previous games. I would love to see some more diversity.

Goldby2500d ago

thats kind of what happens when mythology is involved. while they may be from different cultures, many thinks will seem similar between the two.
Zeus and Thor,
Medusa and the Basilisk
Hermes and Loki

Cultures use real world examples to build mythos from.
Medusa and the Basilisk were most likely from spitting cobras, who attack the eyes of their victims to blind them,
there is alot of diversity in the the history behind the creatures,

The Hydra and the World serpent for example

UltraNova2499d ago

Goldby,

Spiting cobras in frozen Norway?

Plus Norse mythos was already established well before their overseas conquests. So...

Yeah I m nitpicking I know you are right though Norse muthos has many similarities with Greek mythology.

Goldby2499d ago

@ultra.

Scandinavia is also considered Norse. That includes Finland, Norway, Sweden and Iceland.

UltraNova2499d ago

Goldby,

Hehe naming just Norway was the efficient way of getting the point out. And yeah my point still applies ;-)

I know what you mean but I think it's one of those times that they aren't showing much off and are keeping their cards close to their chest. I like the slower pace personally but it's a legitimate concern because it does seem different.

The series needed to progress otherwise it would have felt stale and seeing as they can't beat GOW3 for bigger and better they've changed other aspects, I think it'll work and there's a lot more to come.

madforaday2500d ago

In the article the guy mentions the combat is slower which to an extent it is compared to the others but for me, it was mostly a hack N slash game until you start playing on a harder difficultly. I think that is why he thinks it is faster because in theory you can just slash your way to the end. Of course, some of the bigger enemies you need to dodge certain moves. In the new trailer we see pretty fast combat and more defense of moves compared to the past titles. I personally, am estatic about this game and the direction they are going. This is going to be so much more personal and we will see even closer as well :). Of course, it isn't for everyone but hopefully people test it before they judge.

2500d ago
AustinFern2500d ago

It very well may be, but that is kind of my point. People are getting very excited, and I see why, but I think there are a few reasons to be cautious. The combat seems different, bad or good different I don't know yet, and the father/son dynamic is not and easy one to pull off, especially in this style of game. I feel there are good reasons to be cautious about the game right now.

Nacho_Z2500d ago

Yeah the father and son dynamic, and mechanic is the one thing I'm a little dubious about. The series isn't known for its deep emotional relationships or any kind of interaction beyond shagging or twisting heads off so it's new territory for them.

Having said that it looks promising, their relationship in the earlier trailer looked and felt real and natural and I doubt they'd be stupid enough to allow it to get in the way of tearing enemies in half.

BlackTar1872500d ago

kratos is the product of the most messed up world lol I would imagine he had no issue teaching his kid to survive the worst possible circumstance. I have a feeling the kid is going to be the compass that changes kratos more then kratos will teach his son.

Ceaser98573612500d ago (Edited 2500d ago )

Such a shame then... i am totally sold and would def invest on it.. I can totally see this game selling really well like UC4 ... also will push many ps4s and pros ... Come PSX we would know the exact release date and more gameplays... cant wait..

lol! disagree, i can understand the "green" feelings... :D

God of War: How Atreus Could Become Just As Cool As Kratos

What if we told you that the future of the God of War franchise might just lie in the hands of Kratos’ young son, Atreus?

Might be in a minority here but I didn't enjoy any of the sections playing as Atreus or having companions at all. If I had my way it'd be Kratos on his lonesome from start to finish. Straightforward action gameplay without the endless boring chatter.
