Overwatch Pro Crashes Career with Racist Rant

Toronto Esports' Dellor most likely won't be seeing a professional team ever again after this.

Kribwalker2571d ago

Wow, some people know how to ruin a good thing. He had a career playing video games and it's done...moron

EatCrow2570d ago

Well he was having a bad day.
You can't expect someone to never lose their cool. At least once.

But yea he shouldve done his breathing excercises to relax.

Snox2570d ago

He said the n word for 26 seconds straight. That is not normal even for a racist person. He needs meds.

EatCrow2570d ago

@snox

He lost his cool. Thats what I said. Don't think you immediately need to resort to meds for that.
People have different degrees of anger management.

Cant wait for people here to lose their cool and have someone record it. It would be funny to watch.

Snox2570d ago

Man children who take video games too seriously "lose their cool" like this. If you think this its normal, it isn't.

Snox2570d ago

Go away Dellor we know it's you. There's no excuse for it stop defending yourself.

thekhurg2570d ago

@snox

You've never communicated with strangers online in a player vs player environment then.

26 seconds is rather short.

EatCrow2570d ago

@snox
For this guy its videogames. For someone else its sports. And for another its politics. And for others its their husbands or wives.
Thanks for determining what is acceptable to lose your cool for and what is not.

W34KN35S2570d ago

thought id add my two cents lol , yes everyone loses their cool but there are a whole bunch of other words he could've used besides that one(if he did , idk i just saw the title). Playing online even still to this day I am shocked and appalled by how many people ranging from young children to adults who still call people the n word in a derogatory sense......im black btw lol not that it matters.

b163o12570d ago

Should of took a break and smoke some BC bud

(e.e)

trooper_2570d ago

@ EatCrow

He should have known better.
That's not an excuse.

andrewsquall2570d ago

Lol, he "lost his cool" and revealed the truth of what a horrible human being he is. I guess it could happen to any of us.......................oh wait no, just if you are a RACIST.

kneon2570d ago

So what? I might call you all kinds of nasty things if I'm annoyed, but it would never occur to me to use that word.

yomfweeee2570d ago

You're right, a normal person will lose their cool sometimes.

But with a racist rant? Are you kidding me? That isn't normal unless you're actually racist.

S2Killinit2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

"Loosing cool" is one thing, going on a racist rant is another. He is being judged for anti social behavior, not just for loosing it. Most people simply dont like to work with racists.

Its like if someone said would you hire this racist guy? I would probably say no thanks.

Edit: now that i listened to it, that scream right before, was what tells me the guy needs help.

Amongunz2570d ago

The fact that when people get upset they think it is normal to burst into angry racist rants is just... disturbing. I have bad days all the time and never once in 36 years have i collapsed into a racist rant. Dumb logic

C_Ali882570d ago Show
TKCMuzzer2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

I'm sorry but I disagree. Everyone loses their cool but not everyone uses racist comments in the process. He could just swear for 26 seconds straight, that would be bad but it's not racist and would just annoy people rather than cause offence.
We all have an ability to control ourselves, even when we lose our cool. You seem to be saying it's ok to use racist terminology just because he was annoyed, what your doing is making an excuse, not justifying the reason. You do that because there is no justification for his racist outburst whatever you may think.

You can be angry without being racist at the same time.

I had an online friend once who happened to make a comment on race during gaming, only for me and others to dig a bit deeper until he revealed his was a racist. As with many his so called argument for his view was nonsense and belonged In a day long gone. Ultimately we de-friended him. An outburst is an outburst but as seen here it truly reveals who an individual really is.

Liqu1d2570d ago

Doesn't justify saying the n word multiple times. There were plenty of other words he could have used to vent his frustration.

hulk_bash19872570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

You're a coward and a racist to use that word or any derogatory word in an online environment. Especially when you know the words origin was and still is used to demean an entire race. There are many non racist words to use when you get angry or frustrated.

Irishguy952570d ago Show
Godmars2902570d ago

Think more of the point, if he only used the one specific racist word, is why did he use the one curse when there are many other to choose from.

Kind of get why white people want to use the specific word, because they generally aren't allowed to use it, but then you have to look at the context of when they want to use it.

MorpheusX2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

@EatCrow

Nice downplay there, " He Lost his Cool", without ACKNOWLEDGING he said the N Word for 26 sec straight.

smh

Its what you didn't say or even hint to that leads me to believe you had NO PROBLEM with what he said, but ONLY that he lost his cool.

Not that I personally care, because I don't seek validation, regardless of name calling , I know[ledge of] who I am, but you strike me as a Passive Aggressive "Racist".

gunnhed2570d ago

You can lose your cool, and not be racist. They are not mutually exclusive.

VileAndVicious2570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

"Losing your cool" is one thing, going on a racist rant is quite another. If I have a bad day at work or lose my cool about someone cutting me off in traffic, my default reaction isn't to yell racial obscenities. That's not normal.

If your default reaction is to do something like that you more than likely harbor some deep-seated hatred. That sort of thing honestly has no place in today's society. Don't trivialize it.

Shadowolf2570d ago

How this young man exercised his frustration was extremely unprofessional and unacceptable. As a professional, responsibility comes into play regardless of how you are feeling. It is a great thing that his contract was terminated, as it sends the right message.

SegaGamer2570d ago

@EatCrow

I have lost my cool over many things in my life, but i don't go into a racist tirade at the same time. If you're angry about something, don't take it out on other people.

2570d ago
FITgamer2570d ago

Having a bad day doesn't make it ok to say hateful shit. You sound like one those people who use being drunk as an excuse for doing things "out of character".

joab7772570d ago (Edited 2570d ago )

No. Usually I am all for protection of free speach rights but he is sponsored and they determine the rules when they pay you. If he had slipped in a moment of rage or something and apologized...but this was something entirely different!

And he needs to get knocked down a peg! Hopefully this is a wake up call!

NotoriousWhiz2570d ago

"When you get into a fight...you think you dont try to hurt the person youre fighting with????
What kind of a fight is that?

Youre telling me that when you get angry at someone you shower them with compliments?
Trying to keep their feelings in mind?"

This isn't a fight. It's a competition. I've been in plenty of them. When you are a good sport, the competition ends with a handshake, not an assault on your opponent's character.

Outside_ofthe_Box2569d ago

He lost his cool? LOL

Is that how you react EatCrow when you lose your cool?

This is indefensible.

KwietStorm_BLM2569d ago

Yea. Literally every person on the planet has had bad days. I'm positive many have have far worse than this guy has. I'm not going to argue how we handle things differently. I'm not going to argue that I haven't "lost my cool" in a competitive gaming match. But I will say that I have never in my life went on a racist rant, much less flipped my shit like that because I got killed in a video game. That word makes me sick to my soul, and I'm so far beyond the fact that it's the go-to word to try to offend someone online. In his own words, he wanted to make the other guy upset too, so he said the most offensive things that came to mind. *This is not ok.* He said himself there is no excuse for it, but you're here half-assed apologizing on his behalf. I've had friends who aren't even black get called that just because that's what idiots do.

joab7772570d ago

I am the first person to stand up against PC and ruining someone's career over free speach rights etc. I get tired in the land of the free constantly seeing stories of such a nature, but...

This was stupid! And gives great perspective to what is and isn't important as a supposed Pro is so easily infuriated that he would go to these great lengths to actually demean someone. Wow! Wonder if he has any remorse at all!

Is there anyone in the world of E-Sports who is actually a good example of a person worth looking up to as a model competitor or sportsman?

Seriously, all I hear about E-Sports "athletes" is they keep losing their contracts or get kicked off teams because they resort to asinine behavior like this. It's almost a a weekly thing around these parts.

I know Esports has become popular, but at what point is the reputation of Esports going to suffer the same stereotypes that gaming has for generations now...that it's nothing more than a puerile venture for the perpetual man-child who's best social outlet is their own mothers basement, and they're best locked away from the rest of society? Or is Esports just one of those things like wrestling,.....where people watch it to see just how bad and ridiculous the next fall can be?

Yeah well at least once a week I get called a racial slur playing on X1 online but I'm not the sensitive type, so I just ignore that kinda crap. I never give strangers the satisfaction of pissing me off.

That said while I understand everybody loses their temper, once in awhile -some more than others, either way resorting to racist outbursts are never justified.

That's best way man! That way no one gets offended. Me and my good friends during the 90s, always insulted each others race all the time. I always remember my buddy and his gf got in a disagreement once, but were kinda laughing at the same. They started hurling all kinds of funny shit at each other, you wetback turtle looking motherf@cker, F you sand n@gger, etc. Was kinda in good fun. Nowadays they consider that a hate crime, it's getting ridiculous. Once again, the kid sounds immature, stupid and clueless! Highly doubt he's a racist. It's just an easy thing to label people with these days.

And they said playing games for a living is all fun. For this guy to breakdown, when he is in some type of spotlight, shows the amount of stress this stuff causes.

TechnoGoat2570d ago

Oh come off it, stress doesn't just turn you into a hate spewing man baby, he was that way from the rip.

EatCrow2570d ago

There was no hate. He lost his cool. Happens to every human being.

The hypocrisy today.
Have you never gotten into a fight before? Said things you didnt mean?

Wake up.

meka26112570d ago

Lol hate spewing? He said one word repeatedly, I don't really think everyone person who uses the N word to be a racist, that's just dumb. Racism is the hatred of a race just because of their race, saying a word is not racism.

Rude-ro2570d ago

Stress and anxiety can do a lot of things to someone.
People grow up learning that certain phrases means the absolute worse to someone else...
This is an instance.
Is it right? Nope, and he is learning that right now, but yes, anxieties and stress is something you never see coming and when it hits you, you lose your sh!t in a lot of ways. Both physically and mentally.

EatCrow2570d ago Show
Rude-ro2570d ago

@eatcrow
You are correct in everything you are saying...
But I can see how so many do not get it.
In our day and age... those discriminatory words are more of a trained curse word that reflects more personally than saying f-you.
Sad, but true.
But for people to downplay stress and anxiety is sad.
This kids life is competitive. At some point, a player has a chance of getting lost just like any other form of life that builds up said scenarios.
People snap.

candystop2570d ago

You guys are really something. It was wrong period and offensive! There is no he was stressed so i understand. There are things we simply don't do because at somepoint there are consequences. Period thats it! Should he be forever attacked "No" but don't make excuses for this type of behavior unless your one in the same.

InTheLab2570d ago

@ EatCrow

He lost his cool. In his apology he says "f*&*". Surely screaming that word is sufficient. We've all lost is for a bit but 26 seconds of "n*****" got him exactly what he deserves.

Where's the hypocrisy? He screwed up. Went on a racist rant. He's a bigot. It's simple.

@ Meka
I've been called the word. That word, historically, has power. My grandfather had the word used on him while marching for basic American rights. I moved to an all White neighborhood and got called the word behind my back making living there nearly impossible.

If you've never experienced racism, you cannot comment on what it is or what it means to other people.

@Rude
He's obviously used this word more than once. He had the balls to do it during a stream, surely he's done it before. He said he got pissed and wanted to use the worst word he could think of to hurt someone. Why that specific word? I'm guessing he uses it so much he's desensitized to the word. Probably one of the OG 12 year olds screaming n***** and f***** on XBL back in the day.

Rude-ro2570d ago

@candy
No one is defending the person...
The conversation just went deeper than right or wrong.
This behavior has been in online gaming since the day it started.
It is an evolution of generations in the online community.
If any of you ever played on an online game before chat parties was a thing...
You would hear everything under the sun be thrown around. Well, what about the young ears that grew up listening to it? Would it not evolve into something?

It is wrong. The person will suffer because of it. Cause and effect will be there, but it could and should open the door to deeper conversations about online gaming and how we should think about the cause and effect.
High stress competitive environments with a mind that is unable to handle it will have these ramifications... proven throughout gaming.(everywhere, but topic at hand)

People can relate to the outburst... not the racial hate that came flying out of the mouth, but the losing it due to anger. Levels of anger will determine how big of an idiot you are.

You go back to the cod:mw days, and inbetween games, it would sound like a kkk rally with every single racial term being thrown around like it was nothing with all ages there listening....
Do you really think that would not desensitize younger minds and have an effect?
Couple that with real issues of anxiety, and it can lead to outburst as such.

Your point of view is valid and I am not arguing it nor am I defending the outburst... just was going deeper into the conversation.

Why? Because I deal with anxiety.
Now, I do not go in rampages like that, but I do know the sounds and tones of when a person separates from right or wrong and nothing but anger fills the mind...

There are many that connect to that emotion and try to explain it... others just hear the hateful term used, but if we want to make a difference... dissecting it and conversing about may help other gamers realize the signs before snapping and hurting themselves and others.

Just food for thought.

Yea i dont see any nba, golf, basketball, football, or soccer players saying the n word all day.
Riley "racist" cooper said it once at a party drunk but thats about it.

KwietStorm_BLM2569d ago

I don't see professional athletes, who are actually putting their bodies on the line, go on racist rants in the middle of a game. Stress doesn't cause this. He said himself he wanted to be offensive. Why are people rushing to throw pillows after this guy jumped out the window?

rainslacker2568d ago

I've seen some on occassions get frustrated...usually because another player did something wrong and a call wasn't made....get frustrated and maybe exchange words or have some jostling, but then it's broken up pretty quickly, and the game goes on.

This was something different though, and meant to be upsetting, not just an intimidating way to vent.

Some people up above are trying to justify it as him being upset, which is fine I guess, but even if he went off on some tirade that wasn't even racist in nature because he lost a match, it is poor sportsman like conduct, and IMO, given the fact that Esports is rife with reports of these people who behave like children because they happen to lose a match, they should maybe be weeded out so Esports can start to have some standards and be taken seriously if that's their intent. That big money isn't going to come and attach itself to those who can't behave like adults and show respect for others, because big money doesn't want to be associated with any semblence of disrespect.

EatCrow2570d ago

Not nearly as backwards as the people placing themselves on a pedestal.

DarkBlaze252570d ago

@EatCrow tbh I'm more so troubled by the fact you and a few others seem to be defending this guy. What he did was wrong point blank period. If he had tourettes or something that's one thing but he knew full well what he was doing for 26 secs straight. Stress gets us all and you are right about that but how we handle it is solely on us.

Gazondaily2570d ago

Why are you defending this bullshit behaviour? It's not about being on a pedestal; the guy shouted a racist word multiple times for 20 or so seconds and you're here saying "Oh he just lost his cool".

Well done...

So, Ill put this here because this part of the comments seem a little more educated. I am black. If I were to get stressed I wouldn't call someone the N word even tho I find it the most offensive word out there I could say... So why wouldn't I use it to slander someone else? Because it is an attack on equality. It would be me highlighting being black is bad which would be stupid coming from me. Is he Racist? Maybe. He took an offensive word and ADDED the word black to it which means he was trying to be even more insulting. I don't know. If he is not racist then he damn sure doesn't believe in equality.

Huey_My_D_Long2570d ago

It doesn't it means for certain he's against anything. Some people will say anything to upset others and usually when there's a cultural line, they will specifically cross it to piss someone off. Imo if he's saying it because he was pissed and trying to piss off people. Not a defense, or saying that makes it ok, but I wouldn't say it's enough evidence to show hes against equality... Evidence of him being an immature wanker and a jackass, no doubt.
