7 Reasons Why Xbox One Beats PS4

Tom's Guide:

It may seem like the PS4 has already won the latest console war by a landslide, with over 50 million players and a bigger library of must-have exclusives. But what if I told you the Xbox One was still a better buy?

As a fan of the xbox line of products... even I wouldn't make that claim. They are both good systems with their pros and cons and anyone who really enjoys gaming on all fronts would not be disappointed in having both.

The features that xb1 has are good but does not quite compare to the plethora of titles that the ps4 has and at the end of the day it's games that we play on these systems... not features.

SpinalRemains1382616d ago

Exactly. Here are some reasons why I would opt for the PS4.

Horizon Zero Dawn
Nioh
Bloodborne
NieR Automata
TLoU Remastered and (II) down the road. (Totally badass)
Persona 5
Uncharted 4
God if War 4
Gravity Girl
Days Gone (looks badass)

NotanotherReboot2616d ago

Cannot wait to play down the road

IGiveHugs2NakedWomen2616d ago

I don't know how the author can make those claims and still think that anyone would take him seriously.

Bronxs152616d ago

more and better games. thats a great reason for your to choose ps4. the article lists some great reasons someone may choose xbox one.

Bigpappy2616d ago

Only 3 games on that list grab my interest: Horizon; GOW; Nier. None that I would buy a PS4 to play. I do understand though that there are many people who would disagree and that is perfectly heathy.
I do wish that M$ had matched or exceeded PS4 in power when they released, but it looks like they are prepared to fix that disappointment.
Not here to try and tell anyone the X1 is better than the PS4, because on paper that is just not true. I can tell you though that I prefer to play on the Xbox over the PS because of various things that center around comfort and familiarity.
The games that I play are not exclusive to Xbox. I will try and finish The Witcher3 (Good but not Great. The way quest are given and the fighting with the controller to try and not run everyone over is annoying. The transition to controller doesn't feel optimized). Will download the Morrowind expansion for ESO, buy Ghost and Mass Effect. Will be getting the Scorpio upon release and everything else is a wait and see for me. I can't afford the time for anything else and I like big complex game that pull me into the world. Not a Dude-bro type of gamer and if I am doing mindless hack and slash, it must be brutal, easy to control and not frustratingly difficult ( I have to hit the AI 1000 time and they kill me with 2 blows while occupying the entire screen).

toddybad2616d ago

Days Gone looks like regurgitated shit. Only with a motorcycle.

Hardiman2615d ago

I'm with you all the way man. The games just seal the deal. On a side note as I read the article headline I was taking a drank and laughed and spit diet coke everywhere. Today I got Berserk, Ni oh and Sniper Elite 4 and upgraded from the Samsung 65KS8000 to the 65KS9000 and Ni oh looks absolutley amazing! Now if the 28th would just hurry up and get here because I want to see Horizon in all it's HDR glory. It's a great time to be a gamer but it's an excellent time to be a Sony fan.

shayureppa2615d ago

You forgot Spider-Man :)

Here are my reasons why I'd opt for the Xbox One S (already got PS4 Slim);

- 4K Blu-ray Drive
- Xbox Live
- Forza Horizon 3
- Forza 6
- Gears of War 4
- Cuphead
- Quieter Console
My PS4 Slim sounds like a jet engine at times, annoying :(

- Forza 7
- Halo 6 (split-screen woot woot)
If no Master Chief, I'm throwing Xbox One S out of the window lol

This is just another click-bait article obviously. In terms of sales and quantity of games the PS4 wins pretty easily. Now lets go through this guys 7 reasons one by one and see if they add up.
1. B/C. Yes the XB1 wins here as you don't have to pay anything to use XB1 B/C and you can use your existing Xbox 360 games on the XB1. The list of supported games continue to grow every week. PS4 only has PSNow and a pay to play option for PS2 games. Not great.
2. Cloud Storage. This is what Microsoft is doing with those 100,000 cloud servers. Auto storing gamer's game data. It's a nice free service, but the PS4 also has Cloud Storage on the PS3 and PS4 as well. You can auto-set it for each game. Even if you need PSPlus, it's still there.
3. Shooters & Racers - Shooters are on both consoles and there are some great ones too. The best racing games is still on XB1 with Forza 6 & FH3, but there are still plenty of racing games on PS4 as well like Project Cars, DriveClub, The Crew, Dirty Rally, Assetto Corsa and eventually GT Sport. So this reason is dumb.
4. XBox Play Anywhere - It's a nice feature if you own a powerful PC or laptop and play on those platforms, but if you don't play on PC it's pretty much irrelevant. I don't game much on PC so I play ALL my XB1 games on the XBox One and eventually Scorpio. Sony obviously doesn't want their games played everywhere, but on the Playstation platform.
5. TV Integration and 4K Blu-Ray Support - This will be a great feature in the future, but right now there's not enough 4K Blu-Ray movies out or enough 4K HDTV in consumers homes to benefit everyone. By the end of 2018, this will be worth having, This isn't critical for gaming in anyway, so a lot of people aren't going to care.
6. EA Access - If you love EA games then this is an excellent feature for you. Not everyone likes EA games however. It's still nice to have this option on the XB1 whether you want it or not. Sony refused to put it on the PS4 because they have PSNow and think EA Access might pull some business away from their own services.
7. Better Online Experience - Xbox Live is still better overall, but Sony has made improvements to PSN and it's not as bad as it was with the PS3. It still goes down a bit to often, but it's definitely faster and more reliable. With Microsoft's 100K dedicated servers, it's no wonder they are still the best. The gap has closed some though and XBL was actually better on the XBox 360.

So besides B/C and XBox Live being better, the other stuff is mostly irrelevant for gaming. Who keeps approving these articles?

darthv722616d ago

In regards to BC... my only gripe is that you really CANT use your existing 360 games. At least, not in the sense that typical BC is accustomed to. You use the disc as just a verification and then you end up wasting time waiting for the digital version of the same game to download.

An ideal method would have been to allow direct play from the disc with the only thing downloaded would be the patches to make the game BC. Like the way the 360 did with OG xbox games. That way you arent cluttering up your drive with digital versions of the game you are holding in your hands.

In fact, the way both MS and Sony went about requiring games to be installed leads me to believe they were planning on doing away with physical media altogether. Otherwise why install the game in the first place? And No i don't buy the jargon about cutting down on loading times. The optical drives on both are certainly more capable of faster read speeds than the previous drives in the PS3.

News Flash... we still have loading times even from the hdd. It was a bad call on both their parts to make installs mandatory.

Bronxs152616d ago (Edited 2616d ago )

not sure i agree with you. how can you say b/c and xbox live are relevant to gaming but the other points like ea access is irrelevant?

Ea access is all about free games (and good games to boot) early access to new games, and ability to try games before buying them.

also one could argue that things like seamless integrated cloud storage and play anywhere, along with xbox live all lend them self to a great overall game playing experience? like not having to worry if you uploaded your save files or buying a game twice, like just a great worry free experience if you like to play games on xbox and pc with nothing having to worry about anything else?

edit: the tv integration and 4k blu ray support are not related to gaming, but you just changed the narrative of the article for your own purpose. the article wasn't comparing head to head gaming experience, we know in that manner ps4 excels with higher native resolution and fps than xbox one s. the article is more broad in scope and you'd be kidding yourself if you didn't think people purchased xboxes and play stations for media purpose too! don't forget net flix said ps3 was their most used platform! people definitely love watching and streaming 4k movies as well.

XanderZane2616d ago

@darthv72
They should have given you an option on whether you want to download the XBox 360 game or not, just like on the XBox 360. I think they did the digital download because the digital copy has everything it needs to run on the emulation. The game on the disk doesn't. The disk is just a confirmation that you own the game already. Otherwise you could just buy the game online and download the digital version.

The reason you install the game is because it runs faster and smoother coming off the HDD. The load times would even be longing coming of the Blu-Ray disk.

JasonKCK2616d ago

XanderZane Play anywhere is also a streaming option that does not require a powerful PC, just Windows 10. Ultra BR is irrelevant if you own a PS4 because the PS4 doesn't give you the option. Odd how BR was praised as a bonus until Sony didn't add it.

XanderZane2616d ago

@JasonKCK
With Play Anywhere, when you buy the digital PC version of the game, you can download the digital copy on your XB1 as well. If you want to stream the game from your XB1 to your laptop, you can do that too. UBR isn't a big deal right now, as there aren't a huge selection of UBR media yet. 4K HDTV is just starting to grow. By the time it hit summer/fall of 2018 it will be much more relevant. It's still a nice bonus for the future, but not something that's critical right now. Sony didn't add it because they wanted to keep the PS4 Pro at $399. They also wanted to sell a lot of their stand alone UBR players.

HaikusfromBuddha2616d ago

You know your comment was very well written until you went all "silence to all xbox news and it's irrelevant for gaming."

rainslacker2616d ago

@Darth

The reason for the installs is for performance gain and the fact that the number one piece of hardware to fail on any optical based system is the laser. Installing to disc greatly reduces the wear on the laser, thus greatly reducing the chance that the companies would have to provide warranty service, or leave a customer with an inoperable system.

If these companies wanted to do away with physical media, they wouldn't have included the ability to use said physical media. They wouldn't need to jump through hoops, and it's highly unlikely they just threw in the optical drive late in development because they got cold feet.

XanderZane2615d ago

@HaikusfromBuddha
I should have said it's irrelevant in terms of the features being on the PS4. EA Access isn't a deal breaker because the PS4 are still going to get all those EA games anyways. With or without the EA Access service. Cloud & Shooters/Racers are on both systems. So not irrelevant for gaming, but not necessary to be on other platforms. It now seems like the next gen consoles PS4 Pro, PS5, Scorpio, Scorpio 2 will all be completely B/C from here on out.

gamerpop2615d ago

FYI this is not click bait. What you mean is that it is a rehash of a pop topic that you do not care for. There is nothing baiting you to click.

rainslacker2616d ago (Edited 2616d ago )

I decided to read this because I generally don't have a problem with tomsguide. But half the list is subjective, one is for EA access, two are about things that are going to have limited usage by the user base(play anywhere or seamless cloud storage to play at a friends house or wherever). BC is about the only thing on this list which MS has over Sony, unless you include UHD playback which seems to have very limited adoption right now.

None of those things really negates the stronger line up exclusives or overall support that Sony gets for PS4.

This kind of article from tomsguide is rather surprising. I know they're a tech hardware site, but they usually also know that software is how the user interfaces with a system, and to admit that Sony has a much stronger line up but say how X1 is a better choice for mostly non-gaming things, is rather unlike them.

jaymacx2615d ago

I have owned every Xbox system this far and while those 7 things mentioned are great selling points for the system PS4 has one thing that makes it a better choice ....GAMES... the Main reason your buying a system right? MS needs to deliver on those exclusive experiences that give Xbox an identity that fans can stand by. if they leveled out the amount of games exclusive to the system (Good games) then Xbox might actually have an edge on PS4 feature-wise. But I don't deal in what ifs, I deal in what IS.

freshslicepizza2617d ago (Edited 2617d ago )

is playstation now and share play irrelevant on the ps4 because how can you prove it helped sales or not? it is showing features that make it different. funny how quick you are to just want to downplay anything xbox does. from telling people to how terrible controllers are on halo wars 2 which is ridicuilous to whats the point of a xbox if the games are on the pc, which is even more ridiculous.

and yes, it did help them in sales because there was a bump in xbox one sales when the s model came out.

Razzer2616d ago

Do you have the actual sales numbers? We know that for 4 months Xbox beat PS4. Is that because of a "bump" Xbox sales or was it because PS4 sales dipped due to the upcoming Pro? Either way, when Pro came out, PS4 was back on top.

2616d ago
Major_Glitch2616d ago

LOL! Oh moldy, at least you can take comfort it the fact that you have bc. Lord knows if the Xbox didn't have bc Xbox owners wouldn't have any games to play.

Skillz12152616d ago

just stop please your making yourself look really desperate

Godmars2902616d ago

Can you show how TV integration helps XB1 sales?

Hell, can you give reason why BC makes it worth it to a 360 owner to buy an XB1?

Deadpooled2616d ago

Belking, nobody likes you.

Realms2616d ago

@moldybread

Why do you torture yourself give it a rest MS lost this gen so badly they are releasing a new console mind you it's not an upgrade as much as it's a new console. If you compare the X1 and the Scorpio's spec's it's pretty laughable MS F up and have continued to F up. Many people on this site would probably buy a Scorpio if it had some decent games but so far MS has nothing a side from the usual games that they have run to the ground.

Irrelevant? How?

If the PS4 Pro had an UHD Bluray drive it would have been an even more attractive purchase to me. I bought one anyway for the exclusive games, but 4k Bluray isn't irrelevant to me and to a lot of other people.

Same goes for backwards compatibility. I happen to find backwards compatibility to be one of the advantages I appreciate about PC gaming and it's also an advantage for any console in my book.

butchertroll2616d ago

UHD is irrelevant to vast majority of gamers.

Razzer2616d ago

Irrelevant in that neither UHD and BC (even more so for BC) have not made a huge impact on the sales of Xbox One over PS4. Just because those are bragging points by Xbox fans on n4g....doesn't mean they selling points for most folks. Anecdotal evidence aside.

AcidDvl2616d ago

Backwards compatibility it's bleeding money for Microsoft, they need to pay some studios to port those specific games to Xbox One's PC like architecture, and, they don't even make money out of it seeing that majority of those titles are third party. I guess Rockstar appreciates the 8% bump in GTA IV sales...

"Thanks Microsoft!" - Rockstar Games

Bennibop2616d ago

Bought a One S for a cheap UHD player, the player is crap and barely looks better than 1080p. Bought a stand alone UHD, picture is miles better.

Raiden2616d ago

@ Moody and Starchild

There is no point in making sensible comments here, no matter what features or ability other formats may have that are better than the PS4, there fans will always find away to downplay it, these are not gamers, they are fanatics, as gamers you may have your platform of choice, nothing wrong with that in my book, but to disregard the features and games just because your system can't do it or dont have the option is stupidity.

Aw anyway what do I know I just a old gamer.

Godmars2902616d ago

"If the PS4 Pro had an UHD Bluray drive it would have been an even more attractive purchase to me."

And still I keep thinking of the guy who bought at least three separate standalone BR players when they were selling for $1000 and over while insisting they'd never buy a PS3 when it was $800.

XanderZane2616d ago

@butchertroll
So is PSNow and Playstation Vue, but it's still an featured option for the PS4.

rainslacker2616d ago

UHD would be cool to have in PS4P. The feature not being included won't keep me from buying a console though. It would just delay how long it takes for me to buy a UHD, thus UHD media. In the case of UHD, it's also curbed my Blu-Ray purchases, as I'd rather get them on UHD at some point.

But I find the feature pretty irrelevant to gamers overall. Maybe desired, but not necesarrily something people absolutely have to have i a game console. I think we're at a point where if people really care about such things, they'd be willing to buy a device that can do it, and gaming may not be their primary concern.

Why do i feel like if it was sony with the 4k blu ray and bc you would be singing a different tune?

2616d ago
BlackTar1872616d ago

no one sang that tune when ps3 had BC, it was a non issue for the general consumer which is odd cause it was launch time whihc imo is more important to BC then 2 years into a life cycle.

I would like a UHD if games benefitted from it but as is it's a small feature that requires more money to utilize so i'm happy i will get to save money on the Pro when i finally do get one.

XanderZane2616d ago (Edited 2616d ago )

Probably because they would. lol!! Trolls are still praising PSNow, but if it was XBNow everyone on here would be laughing at it and screaming negativity. That's a fact. You gotta love N4G community. Let the disagrees commence. lol!!
Still is still a click bait article. True.. most of the reasons he posted are irrelevant. Games are still the #1 reason to own a game console.

rainslacker2616d ago

No one sang a tune when neither console had it at the beginning of this gen. Seems people said it's no biggie, or at least that they'd be able to live without.

Imalwaysright2616d ago

In your opinion indeed. I would love to be able to put my Vagrant Story CD, my MGS3 DVD and my Demon's Souls Blu ray on my PS4 and play the shit out of them.

Bronxs152616d ago

@ShadowKnight you can find them irrelevant in your honest opinion. but the fact is xbox one does them and playstation doesn't.

i find it funny almost no one here can admit xbox does something better or has a good feature (fan boy much?) instead of downplaying it

rainslacker2616d ago

And it's irrelevant, because it hasn't actually boosted the sales of X1 over the system that doesn't have them, thus meaning they aren't as important as people make them out to be.

Good features for sure. But important to the purchase of a console?

Bronxs152615d ago

@rain slacker
Was the article titled "7 important reasons to purchase Xbox one"? Didn't think so.

Or was it tittles "7 features to boost Xbox one sales"? Nope again.

Seriously, it's 7 ways Xbox beats PlayStation. Like can't anyone admit it's better as a media device cus it supports more formats? No impossible deny and down play that it's irrelevant... OK then.

ps4 - no 4k blu ray. Xbox one s - 4k blu ray. Xbox better in this way. It's like an article can't point out a fact in Xbox's favour without a commenter here responding with a list of exclusives or why that doesn't matter. Geez
