I'm actually disappointed in this news, was looking forward to reviews to decide whether or not to play it, but I guess they'll be sending out review copies late to secure all those pre orders and sales without the risk of cancellation due to possible bad ones.

Well we already knew it wouldn't have any interest before release, so not having reviews either seems fitting. Here's hoping it will outperform Homefront the Revolution.

Something else I've been seeing recently done by publishers as well is "pre order now and play early" thing, I wonder if people get the day 1 patch early as well ?

"You don't need to know anything about our games, just give us you're money, we promise our product is worth it, also we spend half the production budget on Ads to convince you to do so anyways"

The $#!T that these companies get away with these days is just unbelievable, I really hope in the future console gaming, at least with digital game downloads, that there will be some sort of refund policy implemented to give consumers some right(a foot to stand on) because of crap like this.

They've invested alot of money in the game and adverts. They wouldn't want people to be negative by comparing it to gta. Also 7/10 to me is fine. It seems to be a score some people use to bash games.

Why? is there some narrative beat in the story they don't want even a remote chance of being spoiled or something?

What exactly are they gaining from this when you review embargo a game you seem to only stand to lose so many things pre release whatever hype you have going for you is de railed and suspicion is raised immediately again i ask why?

did a bunch of companies in the games industry just decide this was something they wanted to do now with their games or something i don't get it?

This game looks bad, i hate to say it but....downgrade.
Compare the initial footage to the recent footage of the playable game and it looks horrendously dull.

If you are buying it on Steam you still have 2 hours to try it and get a refund if it sucks.

I can wait for the reviews. The game looks amazing. These companies know these games have flaws, and they know when they don't. Early reviews aren't always good, because they're usually so overly positive, that they sometimes miss the flaws (because they were so happy to have permission to post their review first). If you're not going to allow early reviews, then at least have a day one demo.

As far as Mafia 3 goes, i'm not understanding why people are a little pissed off that the review embargo won't be lifted till the game is released. The developers have given you the chance of a better insight into their game by allowing countless youtubers to stream all kinds of gameplay footage for weeks now. That tells me the devs have a lot of faith in their product if they're willing to do something like that, a practice which is considerably lost with most developers over the years.

Can you not formulate any opinion on whether to buy the game or not after hours and hours of footage? Or do you feel like you literally need to wait for a critical standpoint on the game to go out and buy it?

I look at a few of you saying, " Well look what happened with No Mans Sky when that embargo lifted" as if you were trying to say the game's reviews turned sour and you found that out after you bought it. The reviews were largely average so i don't see how that effected any purchase you made. Shit if anything you should be labelling " The Order 1886" for disappointing you in that respect.

Fact is neither of those games allowed anyone to stream their gameplay through youtube personalities, where as Hangar 13 has given you all of that on a silver platter and in my opinion way more than enough for you to formulate your own opinion on whether you think that game looks good or not, also taking into account the views of other youtube personalities and what their opinions might be. All of this content to wade through to make a decision and instead some of you just think "Nah, i wanna wait till some penis at gamespot tells me how crap or golden this game is."

I read it was because it's so story heavy that they didn't want spoilers out there but I can't find where I read that.

I was going to wait anyways, I don't plan on paying $80CAD for games (except The Last Guardian).

I'm holding off, simply because *there might be some serious technical issues. The last sixty dollar game I preordered really burned me, so I'll have to be waiting.
Have my money set aside, and I hope it pans out, because boy am I wanting to play this game. Looks so good. But I can wait a day just to be safe!

I have seen so much gameplay on this game I already know it looks good. The story sounds good as well. As long as the controls aren't shit this should be a good game.

Never a good sign. But they have allowed so much free press already, it should be obvious what we are getting.

I know Im completely against the tide on here but...screw the reviews. Your better off checking live stream honestly and you know, decide by yourself if you like it or not instead of being told by biased people who have completely different tastes that yours.

I was just talking with someone on Reddit about this the other day. Lack of review copies usually mean one of two things: they want to keep the game a surprise for everyone, or they lack confidence in their game and don't want the early reviews to affect their sales. Joke's on them, because lack of pre-release reviews are going to make a lot of people wait before purchasing. I loved the last two Mafia games and Mafia 3 looks exactly like the kind of game I'm going to love, so I'll still be picking up my collector's edition next week. But these review embargoes really need to go.

Sites like Thisgengaming, Polygon or Gamingbolt shouldnt get a chance to review the game at all...despicable click bait sites.

Yeah review embargoes are never great. Take Forza no review embargo met with rave reviews 9s and 10s. Recore review embargo til like launch as well as Quantum Break both average 5s and 6s. No Mans Sky had reviews well after launch date and we see how that turned out. Who knows Mafia 3 looks fantastic but now I'm wary

The only "reviews" I use are Demos and Rentals. If I like the game, I like the game. Reviews sway a mass who aren't willing to put effort into physically playing the game themselves. Make up your own minds.
And blogs/magazine sites feel slighted because they don't get their copy early? I don't like that type of elitism. These guys though are cool about getting it with the rest of us though. So that's real cool of them.

We are just f**ked. And not just the gaming community if sources of media have allowed themselves to become so compromised.

Games a stinker, certainly a downgrade from what was initially shown, go compare for yourself.

Excellent Narrative, Story, & overall emotions. Though missions were often repetitive, and without re-shade, the game looks horrible (with reshade its one of the best looking). Also, cut-scenes were nice, however, I'd have preferred more refreshing La Cosa Nostra stuff.

It's also to keep in mind, that Mafia 1 & 2 are one of all-time greats, any new game will be shadowed by them.

It was ok. The open world aspect impacted the pacing of the storytelling.

I personally really enjoyed the game, the characters were interesting, the story was great and the atmosphere and music was amazing. My main issue was in respect of its repetitive mission structure but you can level that at the majority of open world games.

I really did enjoy the decision making in the game in respect of picking your captains as your choices could have a pretty dramatic impact on the way the story played out. I am not saying the game was incredible, but in my opinion, I think it's definitely under appreciated.

side missions boring, repetive and game launched in a unfinished state so no it doesn't deserve more respect. we have to stop this nonsense, a publisher launches a game most people who buy day one get short end of the stick, 12-18 months later game is patched to a point where it's stable and gamers praise the devs/publisher

Really liked Mafia 3. The setting and atmosphere were top notch.

Great story, not so great open world design. If it were mission driven like Mafia 1 it would have fared better. Same as RDR2 imho.

I got a 100 hrs out of it. It's a fun mediocre experience. Though, I am not sure we should give a piece of art more respect than what it is. It doesn't do anything for gaming to set the bar at average.

This game has the best cut scenes I have ever seen. Great story too. Just a shame about how repetitive it is. Needed more proper story missions.

This may be an unpopular opinion but I think the game is a lot better than Mafia 2. I got the trilogy definitive edition ad couldn't even finish mafia 2. Mafia 3 however was amazing.
