Not going to lie, but I couldn't read all the article. The black background and orange layout to that website is a complete cluster f__k. Both the PS3 and Xbox 360 were good consoles, but the PS3 had, like the PS4 does better 1st party content. Saying that I always liked the Xbox controllers and that kept me mostly on my Xbox were my friends where.

The PS3 may have initially survived based on PS brand but that soon changed in 2008, and since then the PS3 saw countless quality exclusives of a variety of genres. The 360 is a great console and all but this author seems like a massive Sony hater, downplaying all the positives as if he's trying to rebut a legion of pre-teen Sony fanboys on a system wars forum.

I don't mind a site standing up for the console they favour. But to be so selective so as to gloss over the shortcomings of the favoured console just shows how infantile this article is. EVERYONE who knows anything about console gaming will remember the millions of Xbox 360's that had RROD rot. Microsoft themselves set aside over a billion dollars to compensate consumers for the shoddy hardware. Added to which, the PS3 offered far more than the 360, especially what was at the time one of the best blu-ray players built in. Sony used the PS3 to introduce and expand blu-ray which is one of the main reasons the console was far more expensive but even then when you consider what it had on board and the fact that the Xbox Live was an expensive paywall, the PS3 worked out CHEAPER.

Sony made a lot of mistakes with the PS3 but the one thing that Sony has always done and something that Xbox lovers never seem to understand or overlook when criticising Sony and the Playstation brand is that Sony always delivers with first party exclusives and this is why so many of us remain loyal to Playstation. This and the fact that the outgoing console remains supported far into the lifetime of the next generation are the core reasons Sony will always 'trump' Microsoft when it comes to gaming. The PS3 always had many exclusives and even in 2013 you could find more than 20 exclusives for the Sony console something I doubt you could say about the 360. As regards variety, the writer suggests that the Xbox has more variety which is laughable as it is untrue.

Even developers agree that the 'Uncharted' series and 'the Last of Us' were technical marvels that showed just what could be done by a developer who knew how to get the most out of the Sony hardware, To say that the same game could have been run on the 360 is easy when the writer knows that no one tried and no Xbox exclusive came even close to 'Uncharted 3' and 'The Last of Us'.

The last generation has ended and even though the PS3 is still supported by Sony and developers, the number of games coming out will diminish. The PS4 and Xbox One are dominant now and we all know how the PS4 has dominanted TOTALLY this generation, primarily because of the lessons learnt from the PS3/360 generation. Pity Microsoft learnt nothing other then other then how to get the most out of consumers and give the least in return. This is why they languish behind Sony now.

Regardless of what the OP said, a number of exclusive titles on the PS3 demonstrated higher performance than anything on the 360, and when developers made use of the consoles unique hardware. PS3 exclusives like God of War or Uncharted far surpass the technical fidelity of their XBOX 360 counterparts, and even multiplatform games that intended to push visual boundaries demonstrated this, like FFXIII.

The 360 was a great console but its pretty clear that in terms of raw performance, you could get more out of the PS3 and a lot of the PS3s best titles benefited from that.

Opinions...everyone haves one. The PS3 had amazing exclusives right up until the end.

Back in Xbox 360 days I was mainly a PC gamer for a while (Had PS1 and 2 before it) and never felt to play on consoles again. Until one day we had LAN party and someone showed me Halo. Halo was the reason I got back into consoles. Later I played games on my bros PS3 (TLOU, GOW3, Resistance etc.) But I really never felt that ps3 was that much better. I didnt like the Controller, UI and most games on it.
I think it depends what games you like the most. Of course PS3 had some awesome games like TLOU, GOW3, Uncharted, Resistance, Heavy Rain, Ni No Kuni and Demos Souls. But I prefered Forza, Fable, Halo, Gears, Bioshock, Mass Effect (I know ps3 had them later) and Alan Wake.

Dont let anybody besides yourself tell you what games you like more, everyone feels different about what games they prefer.

I miss the free online on the PS3, had the PS4 for 2 years and never bought the ps plus.

The 360 was better throughout the entire gen. Why? Better games better online better features and while Microsoft was and still to this day pushing and innovating, Sony was and to this day copying and trying to catch up. As far as graphics go, Crysis 2 blew any PS3 exclusive out of the water. PS3 games won goth awards but really awards mean nothing. LBP won GOTY awards despite having some of the worst plat forming mechanics ever in a platformer. Super Mario maker didn't win any GOTY awards yet if you ask anyone who isn't riding Sony they'll tell you that super Mario maker is objectively a far superior game in both mechanics and the depth of its Editor and now poor LBP is irrelevant. Outside of forum dick waving contest, no one cares about scores or awards. Halo 3 is a better game than anything the PS3 had to offer. Why? Because it was fun, something that PS3 games lack. So fun that to this day Halo.3 has more players on it than UC2/UC3/TLOU combined. Meanwhile GameStop ended up getting 20 used copies of UC and TLOU a week after launch because no one gave two shits about the after beating them in 8 hours. Hell I went to gamestop on the Friday after UC4 came out and already 9 used copies. More fun games, more innovation, better multiplats, better online, in fact Sony now charges for PSN and it's still awful with painfully slow connection speeds and laggy p2p servers,and a much better controller is why the 360 was objectively the best console last gen. Also didn't help that the dual shock 3 is the worst controller known to man. Hell even the DS4 is awful but it gets wanked simply because it's an improvement over th ds3. As much as I loved the 360. To me it taught Sony a lesson on how to do a decent online service. Don't get me wrong the PS3 PSN was fine for a free service. But if they asked me to pay for it back on PS3 I would of told them where to go.

The 360 was my online console. It was the console I bought most of the MP games for to play with friends. All the single player games I bought for PS3. The PS3 exclusive crapped all over the 360 exclusives again in my opinion. Even though I enjoyed Gears 1,2,3 and the Forza titles.

Xbox 360 was ahead its first years. Then the PS3 came out from the dead and surpassed it.

I always thought.... If the PS3, that was released a year later than the xbox 360, had an horrible launch, it was constantly hated by the media,difficult to develop games, ended up surpassing the xbox 360 against all odds, then it was pretty obvious than the PS4 was going to dominate the xbox One very easily.

I owned both.

With that said I didn't notice a difference between the two where muktiolats were concercened. The main difference was in the exclusives but that's because Sony had developers that really knew how to program for the PS3. That's just hardware though.

Now on to the user experience side of the systems. What I missed most about the 360 compared to the PS3 was the fact that the user experience of the interface was a lot better to me. The constant updating of the PS3s software didn't really bother me however what bugged me the most was how slow the interface could be at times. I remember how horrid navigating TBS store was on the PS3 especially with its constant lockups. In that sense the Xbox 360s user experience was better to me.

Then there was the controller to take into account. While I do prefer symmetrical analogue sticks what bugged me the most was the build quality of the DS3 it really felt cheap compared to the 360 controller. With that said I would say the 360 controller is better than the PS3s.

But when to came to exclusives (multiplats were almost the same between the two) I enjoyed the PS3s a lot more.

With all that said I wouldn't say that either was better than the other. Back then there wasn't a clear winner between the brands. However when it comes to the exclusive software I liked the PS3s a lot more. Infamous, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 4, Little Big Planet, Motorstorm and Demon Souls made the PS3s lineup a lot more enjoyable than the 360s (to me).

Uhm other than strictly US sales the 360 was in no way, shape, or form better than ps3. It was soulless, hoisting itself on the growing fame of the halo series then not too long after with the success of gears of war just continued to push those two titles as system sellers without much of anything else. Constant blabbering nonsense about how online multiplayer was the future and single player was old news. That argument was pushed with such force that loyalists would constantly imply that ps3 online was broken or useless which was never even remotely true. In fact other than cross party chat they were in the end virtually identical. Exclusives with substance seemed to be in the works with games like bioshock, mass effect, and fable but in the end not only did most jump ship to the ps3 but were not much more than a phony argument for fanboys.
Meanwhile the ps3 was putting out new franchises like resistance, infamous, uncharted, little big planet, demons souls, heavy rain, heavenly sword, as well as red hot sequels like God of war 3, metal gear solid 4, and killzone 2.
It was just a very bizarre generation. Nintendo absolutely dominated, sony was under appreciated, and Microsoft had a fake powerful exterior which unfortunately worked and now this gen everything is the other way around and back to normal. But Xbox 360 will not be remembered as one of the greats, not even close.

This was a very click baity article.Both consoles were excellent last gen. Halo 3 and Reach were some of the best FPS's. Although I didn't own a 360 till 2010, I have played 3 especially at friends houses enough to where it was like I owned one.

The X360 was obviously better than PS3 because it had more and better games, power, online, controller and features. Remember how PS3 couldn't even run Skyrim properly? No that was not because Bethesda "waz supah layzee" like all the PSfanboy's kept screaming non stop on this site. Hell it struggled with most open world games in general and most other multi plat games looked and ran awful on PS3 compared to their 360 counterparts. The DS3 controller was just horrible in every way and playing for extended periods of time would cause pretty severe hand and wrist pains. There is a reason those 3rd party Xbox controller adapters were so popular on the PS3 and also why Sony totally redesigned the entire controller for PS4 (DS4 is great btw). Overall the PS3 was a piece of sh*it, but it was still a must-have for a few exclusives. Of course, had we known back then that every single one of those must play and freshly released PS3 games would be remastered within two years of the RemasterStation 4's release, most people wouldn't have bothered with it at all and just waited. Seriously, The Last of Us, which is an amazing game, was just 13 MONTHS old when the remaster was released for the PS4. So yeah, 360 was the last great console. Hopefully the NEO and Scorpio rumors are true because the One and PS4 are also fu*cking terrible consoles and they have made me temporary switch over to PC gaming for my multiplat needs.

Both were pretty good. I prefer the PS3, but I always saw it as very probable for people to consider either console better than the other. Like it was never a surprise if someone liked PS3 more than Xbox 360 and vice versa.

But I will say that people who consider either console terrible confound me.

Prefer the ps3... came with everything in the box unlike the numorous upgrades and addons the 360 had.

The 360 had the highest fail rate of any console ever. It was poor craftsmanship.

The 360 limped off into the sunset with hardly any compelling exclusives the last few yrs of its life cycle.

In one yr less the PS3 actually outsold the 360 in lifetime sales. PS3 introduced free monthly games and free online play. The numbers, the games, the tech, and the build quality were all dramatically better with PS3.

I preferred my 360 compare to my Ps3 because it was the system I had more friends.

But when both systems surpassed the 10 years lifespan ( a feat that was supposed impossible for the X360 according to psfan of the time) shows that both systems were and are still incredible.

So for me the only winner was the gamers in general

MS started the generation out good with games but were nickle and diming everything, play amd charge kits 100$ network adapter paid online MP DLC and then they stoppped making variety of games to try and maximize profit even further with releasing only Halo Gears that type of shit.

360 was a good system but it was by no means the best. My launch model had to be replaced 7 times, that's right 7 TIMES before I just gave up on 360 altogether. My launch model PS3 lasted much longer by comparison and also let me install a 1TB HDD, had WIFI built into the system, along with HDMI and had a blu-ray player as standard, 360 only had two of these and only when a new model was released much later into its lifecycle.
I will say that 360 did have a much, much better online service in live from day one though, PSN on PS3 always seemed like a learning experience for Sony, though they did nail it with PS+, ironically something MS seems to be doing much better on Xbox one than Sony is on PS4.
Also the initial price of PS3 was obscene due to the Cell processor and PS2 hardware built into the system. MS did nail the price of 360 perfectly.

Still waiting on this gens essential/platinum/golds equivalent range of games to become available before I jump in this gen, being late with my ps3 purchase(2009) gave me a lot of games to choose from and great value as well, just a pity I had to replace the console 3 times, but still had some great gaming memories/experiences.

Such a great system and great times had but with each generation comes even better ganes and experiences to be had. All hail the 360!!!!! However, the PS4 has simply won this generation and has given me more already than the 360 could have.

Ok I'll give you that but now PS4 has reversed the roles. It's a larger margin of difference between the very close Xbox 360 vs PS3 race.

Easily for most of the gen but the last two years of the gen the 360 had no exclusives and focused on Kinect while the ps3 doubled down on first party content. In my eyes its a draw overall. I have great memories of Gears, Bioshock, Dead Space, Lost Odyssey, Vesperia, and Mass Effect on 360. On PS3 its Demons Souls, Mgs4, KZ2, and Uncharted. Fond memories for sure.

Only one exclusive of Xbox 360 won the GOTY award and that's Gears of War, it's also the last Microsoft exclusive that won something, ten years ago.

XBox 360 did provide most customers including myself good experience in warranty processing, a lesson on paying close attention to warranty dates, and shipping your 360 back to Microsoft for warranty work. I went through 4 of them myself. 4. I had the same launch day PS3 until I sold it last xmas and it never failed. And the PS3 had many more hours of use than all 4 xbox360s combined. The 360 had some good exclusives, but the PS3 exclusives were very very good as well, and the 360 quality/engineering issues more than offset anything else. On top of that there were some top PS3 exclusives that the 360 never came close to.

(Grand Theft Auto 5 is the most complete monster of a title eclipsing all games in terms of assets, computation, and overall technical mastery that I find infinitely hard to believe that the Xbox 360 would have had a hard time with a game like Uncharted 3.)

I don't care what year you all are talking about. That generation of consoles was dominated by the 360. I had both, and my 360 got 90% of my playtime.
Here's everything that sucked about the ps3:
1. No party chat
2. Holy crap installs took forever
3. Holy crap downloads took forever
4. The controller sucked
5. No party chat
6. Inviting people to games and accepting invites to games was archaic.

I have a ps4 now and I love it. Sony stepped up, good for them. But seriously, there is no way anyone can say that the ps3 was better. It had some great exclusives, but so what. I played those, and enjoyed them. But as a console.... Sony dropped the ball bigtime with the ps3.
