Classic Movies – Better on Blu-ray Disc?

Which? Conversation: The Blu-ray format’s only been with us for six years, but it’s already facing stiff competition from on-demand services. But if you want to revisit the growing number of beautifully-restored classics, it’s impossible to beat.

i'll never go fullout digital i might someday in the future have netflix on the side for films and shows i do not own on blu-ray, then again thats an extra 8 dollars i could use to add 2 more blu-rays to my collection plus the fact that its a battle as to what will get the blu-ray treatment at all if ever or when

take the physical collection away from me, you'll see no money from me except for netflix no way am i going to pay that much for each film that comes out digitallly

As a collector Blu-ray will always be my preferred method of viewing film. It simply looks amazing. I cannot abide by any streaming service since you never own the film, it will never match the quality of nor the sound of the Blu-ray and most importantly you never own it.
Digital content can change at a whim.
For a casual viewer all these services are fine I suppose.
Blu-ray is the only media for collectors and fans that wish to have the full experience.
When I saw Road Warrior on Blu-ray and Lawrence of Arabia on Blu-ray there was no way you could tell these films had been produced 31 years ago (in Lawrence of Arabia's case 51 years ago). It's just breathtaking.

When I can I see the films in the theater, but there is no doubt that for true movie lover. Blu-ray is simply the only option.

Agreed 100% MilkMan. Blu-ray will be the last physical format and it's sad to see digital takeover. Nothing looks as good and sounds as clear as Blu.

I LOVE watching classics on the format because it really is like watching them for the first time. I love that Blu has the ability to show you the director's intention (grain, shading, coloring) and not just the clearest picture.

Blu-ray is definitely the collector's format and that has been proven over and over again with cult-classic titles that didn't even see a DVD release getting ported over to Blu.
