Push Start Review: The Wicker Tree

Vicki Dolley writes: "The Wicker Tree is an adaptation of the 2006 novel Cowboys for Christ, a spiritual successor/companion piece/re-imagining of the iconic 1973 British thriller The Wicker Man. This film has everything going for it: the original director of The Wicker Man, Robin Hardy, not only wrote Cowboys for Christ but also came back to write and direct The Wicker Tree. The Wicker Man is my favourite British film, and as a neopagan myself it remains very dear to me. With The Wicker Tree finally making its public release via DVD right on time for Beltane (the Celtic fertility festival in which the original film was set, also known as May Day), I eagerly grabbed a copy having anticipated this film for over two years. Quite honestly, it completely breaks my heart to say how bitterly disappointing this film is. So much so it is even possible to consider that this is not much better than the infamous 2006 American remake of The Wicker Man starring Nicolas Cage."

The Wicker Tree Blu-ray Review - WGTC

Jeremy of We Got This Covered wrote, "Robin Hardy‘s re-imaging of the original Wicker Man film titled The Wicker Tree is an abomination to film. It’s not scary or bloody enough to be considered a horror film and it’s certainly not funny enough to be classified as a comedy. It sort of sits between the two, existing just barely. The only entertainment that comes from this movie is the unexpected music numbers, followed by some really weird sex and an even odder climax. The Wicker Tree feels low-budget, from its overacting (or none-acting) to its cringe-worthy dialogue. Just about everything feels like something from the Lifetime Network or the SyFy channel."

How innocent and wrong they are.
