'Juan of the Dead' Wins Audience Award at Miami International Film Festival

THR Heat Vision:
The Havana-set Zombie movie opens March 13 in Miami before expanding to other markets.

Alejandro Brugues’ Juan of the Dead was voted the Lexus Audience Award at the 29th annual Miami International Film Festival, which concluded Sunday.

The festival, produced by Miami Dade College, presented its top jury prizes to Cristián Jiménez’s Bonsái, Bart Layton’s The Imposter and Kenya Márquez’s Expiration Date.

I knew this was going to be a hit just because it's a zombie movie. It doesn't matter what language it's in as long as it's got zombies.

Outsider Pictures Acquires Zombie Satire 'Juan Of The Dead'

Deadline:
Outsider Pictures has made a deal to distribute the Cuban zombie satire Juan Of The Dead. The agreement for U.S. rights includes a theatrical release via an exclusive run at Miami Dade College’s Tower Theater, soon after the film screens at next month’s Miami International Film Festival, which the college hosts. The film centers on the fight to conquer marauding zombies who have taken over Havana. Focus Features’ digital distributor Focus World already has pacted to release the movie later this year via electronic sell-through, iVOD and VOD, along with DVD and other formats. Mexico-based Latinofusion made the sale to Outsider, which focuses on distribution and production in Latin America. The Miami fest runs March 2-11.

This is a strange one but funny at the same time. I guess you can best describe it as a Mexican Shaun of the Dead type movie. I may just have to see it via VOD because I don't know that I want to buy this one.
