New Poster and Images for Walter Salles’ Adaptation of 'On The Road'

The Collider:
It’s been 55 years since Jack Kerouac‘s beat novel On the Road was published, and in that time there’s never been a movie. Francis Ford Coppola optioned the rights back in the 1970s, but production didn’t start moving ahead until April 2010 when Walter Salles (The Motorocycle Diaries) was attached to direct and Garrett Hedlund was cast in the lead role of Dean Moriarty. The movie then lined-up an impress cast featuring Kristen Stewart, Sam Riley, Amy Adams, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen, Tom Sturridge, Danny Morgan, Alice Braga and Elisabeth Moss. The movie is now finally set for release in France this May, and new images and the first poster have gone online. The release in May strongly hints towards a premiere at Cannes (which runs from May 16 – 27th) where the movie will likely pick up U.S. distribution.

CinemaBlend: On The Road Review

CinemaBlend: There are many classic American works of literature whose subject matters lend themselves to movie adaptations. On The Road is definitely not one of them. Partially populated by transient supporting characters and paced by rambling journeys with little more than vague, easily altered itineraries, On The Road is, even to its biggest fans, a bit of a hot mess. There’s really no way to reign the material into a coherent structure without altering the hungry and aggressive spirit Jack Kerouac breathed into the work, and since that’s kind of the whole point, making a good, neat adaptation is impossible.

Sam Riley Talks With ShockYa About His Role in On the Road

ShockYa: What was your favorite part of this role?

Sam Riley: That’s difficult, because it was such an honor, as well as being very intimidating. I worked with a lifetime’s worth of great actors in one film. Meeting Garrett, and becoming friends with him, was great, but the whole thing was pretty unusual.
