Stanton & Chabon Already Writing The 'John Carter' Sequel

Coming Soon:

Disney's big-screen version of Edgar Rice Burroughs' John Carter, directed by Andrew (Finding Nemo) Stanton, won't be out for three more weeks, but ComingSoon.net is in Carefree, Arizona attending the junket this week. Speaking with producer Jim Morris, we learned that Stanton and his co-writer Michael Chabon have already been talking and doing some planning and writing for a sequel, which would tentatively be called John Carter: The Gods of Mars, based on Burroughs' second novel.

Mind you, this sequel has not been greenlit by Walt Disney Pictures, and chances are that we won't be hearing anything about whether or not a sequel is a go until well after it opens and Disney sees if it plays as well as everyone hopes both domestically and internationally.

I think people are feeling that John Carter will be a flop at the box office. I don't think it will. I don't know if it will be an enormous money maker but I think it will hold it's own. I know that's what will determine the making of a second movie or not....but who knows right now what it will do...movies have surprised us before.

I'm fairly sure this will be a flop. I'm getting that "10,000 BC" vibe from this movie. Don't think this will do well at all. But who knows, maybe they'll come out with something more that gets me interested and prove that it will be good. As it stands though, just looks like it's going to be a crappy mediocre movie with pretty cool effects and set pieces.

The theater that we went to see Ghost Rider on had it in 3D (which is not ususally my choice) but because we were there...I said let's see it.

It didn't bother me too, too much but I saw the John Carter previews in 3D and I have to say they were impressive compared to the Wrath of the Titans and Battleship which were also shown. Spiderman was also show and those were also very impressive as a matter a fact...the previews for Spiderman were very lengthy and great showing scenes I hadn't seen before.
