The TV show has not followed the graphic novels 100% and I bet a lot of the fans of the TV show don't follow the graphic novel series. Just a guess. I don't at least.
Unfortunately, I believe it may be true. After looking through the official titles and synopsis' for the final Six Episodes of the Season, Episode 5, "Better Angels", has Shane, Rick, Carl ad Glen looking for "a Dangerous Man", most likely in the woods, and Episode six, "By the Dying Fire", only makes reference to Rick and Carl returning to the farm.
It's a shame, being someone of who has been a reader of the books since before the show began, I appreciate the change in approach regarding Shane, Berthnal has always been a fantastic actor but has particularly shined in "The Walking Dead" and has made Shane my favourite character. Hopefully we are proven incorrect and the show continues to move away from books, making it more difficult to predict events.
SPOILERS: If Shane dies in Episode 5 and the man he claimed to be loose is the Governor, I'd expect the farm to get attacked by him and Lori die. Just a guess.
Personally I think the new writers messed it up and created a hole that they will have a hard time getting out of.
-They are too slow to do anything. First episode of this season, awesome. Had great pacing, was really edge of your seat....then they ruined it by repeating it 6 times. They took 6 episodes (half a season) looking for a little girl, didn't Rick spend 1 or 2 episodes in the first season finding his wife? First writers had so much better pacing.
-They make you care/hate the characters too much. In the first season they developed the characters just enough and then killed them, or had them disapear. This season who all hates Andrea? (raises hand) they are making us hate Shane too, which isn't right. In the first season we cared just enough to where any person dying at all we were hit hard emotionally.
They are at the point where we care too much. I'm BIG fan (EVERYONE else too) of Daryl. You kill off characters like that, we start to lose interest or get angry, you start missing too much. yet at the same time with that motive you know they won't be going anywhere unless they start making us hate him out of no where.
-personally I think they should stay on track with the comics, get through it, and start making their own stories. They already kind of do, but most of the major plotlines are the same.
-lastly, to this day we still don't have any answers from season 1. They talked about them in the first episode and then stopped....why?
WWWEEELLLLL, not all people might die as in the comic book. Remember the little girl. She is still alive and kicking in the comic book and for some reason they decided to kill her off in the series.
The Shane turning into a zombie doesn't make sense at all in the context of the situation laid out here. He would have had to been bit at some point and nothing in here makes reference to something like that happening. We all know Shane is going to die will just wait and watch to see the details.

Dangit I don't want to see Glen die! Or his newfound girlfriend lol, why don't they switch him out with Andrea?
Also not digging the "searching for mysterious man" dont tell me its another 6 episodes of them searching for somebody and she ends up in a shed....
