Columbia Pictures has released the official synopsis for director Marc Webb's The Amazing Spider-Man, opening in 3D, 2D and IMAX theaters on July 3. This is how the studio describes the film:

Even if it were completely different from the other movies it wouldn't matter because these movies are based in different Marvel Universes. The Amazing Spider-Man movie is taking place in the Earth 616 universe.
I know a lot of people would be upset if it were to different from the original SM movie but the thing is it's allowed to be different because it's set in a different part of the Marvel Universe.
Then again, your average movie goer wouldn't know that unless they are hardcore into comics such as myself. :p
