IW - If “Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy” represented the height of Cold War paranoia within the British intelligence community, then “Shadow Dancer” is the next chapter, replacing the ominous Russian government with a more localized threat: The Troubles in Northern Ireland.
Not unlike Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy, this slow-burn saga takes its time. But the attention it calls for pays off down the line thanks to riveting performances and tense, water-tight plotting.
Vicki Dolley writes: "Shadow Dancer, the latest from Oscar-winning James Marsh, is a measured yet gripping piece of filmmaking that never drops your attention and leaves you ever-hanging on its beautiful, long, lingering moments."
Clickonline writes: "Shadow Dancer is at its best when it’s keeping us guessing about the nature of its characters and retaining some mystery about the various players in its deadly game. Marsh shapes some short, sharp bursts of action and moves things forward at a deliberate pace which might frustrate some viewers."
Again this sounds like the type of movie that would peak my interest. I like Clive Owens too. I don't know that I would pay to see it unless it opened up on a weekend when no other top movie was opening up against it.
