The Collider:
There are two movies living inside Nicolas Jarecki‘s Arbitrage. Both films are about justice and a wealthy man’s struggle to elude it. They both appeal to our hope that one day the truth will out and that no one can hide their dark secrets forever no matter how desperately they might try. Both stories transcend class because we can all relate to a character who will stop at nothing when he’s at risk of losing everything. But only one story helps Arbitrage stand apart by intelligently showcasing a crime we rarely see depicted in film and embracing the rich drama of family betrayal. The other story is a dull episode of Law & Order.
Nicholas of Movies Hate You Too writes:
August hasn’t been a great month for Netflix Streaming. Notable new releases are sparse and there are few catalog titles to get really excited about. With that said, even though there aren’t a lot of them there are some really good films to check out plus new seasons of some of TV’s best shows.
TF:
Richard Gere has a margin call to make in this melodrama about a Wall Street hedge-funder trying to offload his debt-ridden house of cards before the buyer realises the sums don’t add up.
Games Fiends writes:
"Arbitrage stands proudly and deservedly at the top of its class. A genuinely mature, thrilling, powerful movie which is expertly and remarkably delivered by a first time director, it’s possibly the best film of 2013 so far."
This sounds like it would be boring to me....but then I don't like movies like this anyway. They tend to fraustrate me.
