IGN - While there have been some instances of missing notes here and there, "Pam's Replacement" was the first episode in Season 8 of The Office where I felt the void at the top in a really palpable way. Here we had a fairly amusing central storyline staring Pam, Dwight and Jim, plus a musical subplot with Andy acting like pre-promotion Andy (the bit with his written-down scat lyrics was classic). But it felt like a meal made up of two tasty side dishes. What it really needed was a satisfying entree. Only the cold open, which turned the old Michael tactic of faking important phone calls on its head, seemed to signify that the show is still able to balance its present configuration with the elements that once made it great.
