Here's hoping that he actually makes a decent zombie movie this time. I think his time for making his own stories has past though I admit that I did enjoy Diary of the Dead.
With all due respect to Romero, he probably would have screwed this up and The Walking Dead wouldn't be as great as it is. Romero, unfortunately, is well past his prime at this point. Just not sure he has it in him anymore.
