A Chat with Matthew Lillard, the 'Guy Who Was in a Freddie Prinze Jr. Movie Too Many'

Moviefone says

Matthew Lillard is aware that he's made some bad movies. A lot of bad movies, actually. And he's well aware that those (albeit some well-paying) movies cost him what was once a promising film career -- or, as Lillard puts it, "I sold my soul to the devil." Lillard knows that he has no business acting opposite George Clooney in Alexander Payne's new Oscar contender 'The Descendants.' Not because of acting talent -- he knows he has that -- but because he realizes he lost his "cool card" at about the same time that he made 'Scooby-Doo.' So, yes: Matthew Lillard is very aware of what you think of him. Matthew Lillard may be the most self-aware actor that I've ever interviewed. And 'The Descendants' just may change what you think of Matthew Lillard.

I actually really like Matthew Lillard. Even with some bad movie choices, I tend to like those movies, or at least his parts in them. I really wish his career didn't flounder as it were.

As crappy as the Scooby Doo movie may have been, he absolutely nailed the Shaggy role. I mean like insanely well.

Again, some of his movies might suck, but I always enjoy his role in them.

There's no doubt that he dominated the role of Shaggy. I thought he was perfect for the role. Personally I loved his character in Hackers and despite the fact that it's an old movie about hacking and because of that the movie hasn't aged well I consider it to be one my my faves that I watch at least once a year.

I think that his reflection back on the past career decisions may have done him some good. Maybe the next movie will be a stepping stone to get other directors to take notice in him.

It's cool that the Matthew's supervisor at 7-11 let him take his break early to do the interview.

BTW, that's just a joke. I know he's still acting and has a movie coming out soon.
