IGN - We've actually been learning more, I think, than we all thought we would about Dexter's formative years this season. Nothing huge, but we're getting a sense of who he was outside of the "Harry mentoring" flashbacks from Seasons 1 and 2. First of all, Dexter apparently was such a self-sheltered science nerd that he didn't even know who MC Hammer was – which is funny, but also a bit of a leap. Now, in "Smokey in the Bandit," we find out that Dexter actually collected newspaper clippings of serial killers; with one of them even being sort of a "childhood hero."
