Theater Owners Demand A Longer Wait For ‘Tower Heist’ Premium VOD Test

Deadline says:

Theater owners seem resigned to the fact that Universal will run a premium video-on-demand test of its upcoming film Tower Heist – but are determined to push back the date, now scheduled for just three weeks after November, 4 when it opens in theaters. Negotiations continue as exhibition companies link arms: Three small regional theater chains have joined Cinemark in refusing to book Brett Ratner’s caper movie starring Eddie Murphy and Ben Stiller if Universal proceeds with plans to offer it for $59.99 three weeks after the debut to roughly half a million cable homes in Atlanta and Portland, Ore.

The Collider's Tower Heist Blu-ray Review

The Collider:
Men on a mission” films and the heist genre (arguably the same thing) in general are virtually impossible to screw up. Even Brett Ratner, a director that (perhaps unfairly) gets beaten up regularly for the insensitive things he says in the press, and his party-boy image can deliver a film like Tower Heist, and it plays fairly well at home. You’ve got an ensemble of actors with Ben Stiller and Eddie Murphy playing against Michael Pena, Casey Affleck, Mathew Broderick, Tea Leoni, Gabourey Sidibe and Alan Alda, and with that cast you’re not going to get bored, even if you can see where the film needed a little more oomph. It’s all about seeing a plan come together, and how that plan gets complicated. And if the film isn’t as great as it could have been, well there’s that, but it’s just good enough. Our review of Tower Heist on Blu-ray follows after the jump.

I'm not a big Ben Stiller fan but I thought this movie was very funny. I went to see it because my husband likes comedies so I humored him and we went. I was surpried that I liked it. I may add it to my collection.

New to Blu-ray February 21, 2012

Movies Hate You Too writes:

Last week was a bit of a disappointment with only a few new releases and only one notable catalog release. This week has more new releases but it's still a bit of a mixed bag with one of last years better animated films being released plus two films that received very mixed reviews. Also being released this week are two well reviewed independent films, new seasons from two of Showtime's most popular shows, and a James Stewart classic.

Tower Heist Blu-ray Review - WGTC

Jeff Beck of We Got This Covered wrote, "It’s always a pleasant surprise to go into a film with one set of expectations and come out surprised at the result. Tower Heist looked as though it was a desperate attempt to bring together some comedic actors for a few laughs, and let’s face it, to find the last good movies that either Ben Stiller or Eddie Murphy have been in, you’d have to go back a few years. However, Tower Heist provides just this kind of surprise as it delivers not only on the humor, but also with its interesting plot."
