It does appear that the “Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father” has simply hit the wall. There’s no money to move forward, and producer Marc Fiore has not been able to raise the money he needs. Fiore has been telling various players in this saga that “money is coming from overseas,” etc. But so far it hasn’t arrived. All work has halted, although not much work has actually happened. It’s unlikely production could begin in January since almost nothing has been done yet viz a viz sets, costumes, or planning.

Following director Joe Johnston's recent attachment to the mobster biopic Gotti comes word, via Variety, that Anthony Hopkins will be joining John Travolta and Kelly Preston in the cast.
The film, which adapts Gotti's life from the point of view of his son, was previously set to star, in addition to Travolta and Preston, Al Pacino, Joe Pesci, Lindsay Lohan, Ben Foster and Chazz Palminteri. Barry Levinson was previously attached to helm that earlier iteration of the project, which was to have been titled Gotti: In the Shadow of My Father.

Mobster biopic Gotti is getting a second life.
Veteran filmmaker Joe Johnston (Captain America: The First Avenger) has come aboard to direct the film for Fiore Films' Marc Fiore and Radar Pictures' Ted Field, while Relativity Media has snapped up U.S. distribution rights. Gotti also will be heading to Cannes, where IM Global will shop the project to foreign buyers.
I was wondering what had happened to that. I thought they had just decided not to do it at all.
This would be a different type of movie for the director. I'm not sure what to expect.
Deadline: All the while that producer Marc Fiore was making pricey pay or play deals and holding press conferences in New York and Cannes to trumpet John Travolta, Al Pacino, Lindsay Lohan and Joe Pesci taking part in Gotti: In The Shadow Of My Father, there were big questions on whether Fiore really had the cash to make the movie.
Well, it looks like Lindsey L. will have to find another job until this one gets going.....too bad.
