The Legacy Of 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'

"Life moves pretty fast," as a famous teenage philosopher once said, and before you know it, a quarter-century has gone by. It's hard to believe it's been 25 years since the release of 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' (on June 11, 1986).

Though dated in some ways (there's a lot that clearly marks it as a product of the '80s), the movie feels as fresh as ever, thanks to the eternal exuberance of Matthew Broderick in the title role and the ability to accurately evoke timeless teenage concerns that was writer/director John Hughes' trademark.

I loved Ferris Bueller! Still watch it sometimes when it's on. I don't know why....just do.

I also love this movie as well! Everytime I watched this movie I laugh my ass off! I wish they would make more movies like this one.. This movie is a classic that we all will love for generations to come.

I agree...if I know it's on I watch it. I love the scene at the parade.

A lot of fans like to kick around the theory that Ferris is just a figment of Cameron's imagination. If I must say it does make the movie more interesting when watching it in that context.

alycakes4699d ago

Oh my....I never thought of it that way but Cameron was such a basket case that is so possible.

I'm going to share that thought with my husband and we are going to watch it again with that in mind. That is just going to blow 'his' mind.

Defectiv3_Detectiv34699d ago

Another part of the theory is that Sloan is imaginary too, maybe a girl Cameron has a crush on at school.

HAHA making Cameron the main character is pure gold. I never thought of it that way.

I dunno if it's nostalgia talking but teen comedies suck nowadays, especially compared to Ferris Bueller.

In a lot of ways, the cartoon Phineas and Ferb is a lot like this movie. No wonder I love that show.

This has always been my brother's favorite movie. He's not a big movie buff though, but he'll always take time to watch this film. I think he wishes he lived that life. Good times!
