Why do we need big namebrand directors behind this movie? I love the fact the one guy that didn't even bother playing the games is gone. The movie had absolutely no chance with him behind it, thats all there is to it.

However I think someone new should be brought it or someone that isn't as recognized. Look at all the past videogame movies. You bring in that big namebrand director and he makes the video game the same way he made his past movies. Prince of Persia was just toned down Pirates on sand....

Bring in someone thats new and he will do his best to make a GOOD movie. He will study the game, talk with the developers, and do things correctly so people will like him. meanwhile these known names don't care...it fails big whoop, move to another big name franchise.

The director of 300 and Watchmen should do it. He's very good.

This is great news. It's like the gods have smiled down upon us and given us a gift. Furthermore, the script is scrapped and I'm sure Wahlberg is gone. Rejoice!

That being said, who to replace Russell? I don't like any of the answers others have mentioned. Well, I wouldn't mind a "no name" director getting the job as long as he's capable. The argument that he'd try very hard to do it well to make a name for himself (by doing a service for fanboys) makes sense and would be good. Of course, it would be a no name director which means he hasn't proven himself thus there's plenty of room for him just not being competent enough to pull it off in the end.

I've mentioned it before, though, and I'll mention it again: if I have to pick a director, I pick.....Robert Zemeckis.

He's as good as many others. His "Romancing the Stone" is a great template for a movie like Uncharted (and it was a good movie). Not to mention he has variety in his work. He can handle supernatural, sci-fi, characters, adventure, a dash of comedy...all of that.

However, I wouldn't want to leave him to write the script. For that, I'm not really sure who to pick. Preferably someone who has worked with Zemeckis before so there's an established chemistry....?

Williams Broyles worked with Zemeckis on Cast Away. He's also wrote Apollo 13, Entrapment, Planet of the Apes and Jarhead. So he's got some decent work under his belt.

Or, depending on how Green Lantern turns out, maybe Michael Goldenberg. He worked with Zemeckis on Contact. And he also wrote one of the Potter movies (Order of the Phoenix) as well as Green Lantern, of course.

Or maybe James Hart who also helped on Contact. He has also done Hook, Muppet Treasure Island and wrote the story for the second Lara Croft movie. So, he definitely has adventure experience. Of course, he has two scripts he's already working on now. So his plate is probably too full.

Possibly an even better choice: Roger Avary. He helped write Beowulf which Zemeckis directed. I thought that pretty decent. Also, Avary wrote the Silent Hill movie which I really enjoyed and I believe stands as one of the few good video game adaptations. Furthermore, he helped a good bit with writing Pulp Fiction (which we all know is awesome). And helped write a couple other movies with Tarantino as well.
