"Real" 'Amityville Horror' Sequel Announced by Dimension/Miramax

Bloody Disgusting says:

Not to be confused with Amityville Tapes or Amityville: The Legacy 3D (revealed last week), Dimension Films and Miramax today announced the production of The Amityville Horror: The Lost Tapes -- the "official" sequel.

This is the first film to be produced under the agreement between Miramax and The Weinstein Company to create sequels to some of Miramax's best-known properties.

Dimension also announced that it has acquired the rights to a new screenplay for the film by Casey La Scala and Daniel Farrands. Farrands and La Scala are also set to direct the film. Production will commence this summer with a release date scheduled for January 27, 2012.

I love Ghost stories. Amityville is an interesting story so if any of this is drawn from any of the "real" documentation of the house, this could be pretty awesome.

OK, so, this is the first movie I remember as a kid that genuinely scared me - A LOT! It totally shaped (or fit perfectly?) what makes a scary movie for me - demons, forces beyond my control, anything I can't kick in the shins and run away from. I will watch this and be properly terrified all over again.

I had to punch my friend Jordan (who is from the town) in the face when he exposed how it was all a weird real estate scheme. If you're reading this, Jordan, I'm not listening LA LA LA LA LA!
