Ozus' World Movie Reviews: Bridesmaids - Comic Bits Were More of a Miss Than a Hit

OWMR: A gross-out comedy for the girls, that goes on for too long and too many of its strained comic bits were more of a miss than a hit. It's produced by Judd Apatow and meant to do for the chicks what it did for the boys in their raunchy buddy comedy of The Hangover. The comedy's special funny moment is the soon-to-be bride taking a dump in her bridal dress in the middle of a city street (if you find that funny, you're probably in the cross-hairs of the pic's target audience). TV director Paul Feig ("Unaccompanied Minors"/"The Office"/"Nurse Jackie"), co-creator of "Freaks and Geeks," keeps it TV sitcom lite, with a series of awkwardly devised setpieces and plenty of scenes of public humiliation incidents for the stars to attempt to give us a shot at their best physical humor. The storyline moves in a feeble predictable arc, whereby the bride's best friend and the bride have a falling out but in the end sweetly patch things up.
