Michel Gondry is a visionary. There is perhaps no better word for it. His works have always had great visual appeal and imagination. That is on display here, but you can't help but feel as if his version of the final product got sanitized by studios upset with his work. You can't help but feel the villain was the same way. The Green Hornet is an interesting film, but in the end, it's somewhat of a botched one, too.
