Star Wars Blu-ray Site Counting Down To May The Fourth (Of Course)

Bleeding cool says:

The Blu-ray debut for the Star Wars trilogy and, er, the other Star Wars trilogy is set for the Autumn, with pre-orders open now. Little is known about what the discs will contain, by way of supplements and alternative versions, and many continue to hope that the original versions of the original three pictures will be included.

It doesn’t look like we’ll have much longer to wait to see if geek dreams do sometimes come true. Lucasfilm and 20th Century Fox have launched an official Star Wars Blu-ray countdown page, tick-tocking off the seconds until 6am PST on May 4th, Star Wars day.

I really really hope that the Box set has both the original cuts and the new updated cuts with extended scenes in the prequel trilogy.

dweavis4733d ago

Agreed. If this set contains the original untouched non-special edition versions of the first trilogy then I will pick these up in a heartbeat. If not...well, I still got my laserdiscs I guess :)

Soldierone4733d ago

Doesnt Lucas not like those for some reason though? He is mostly in it for money now.

They could not release those with this, then release them later and I guarantee all of us would end up buying both. Sad but true.

However the same hopes came about when the DVD boxset released and nothing came of it.

We'll find out soon enough

Actually, in a later DVD release (one of the last ones) Lucas DID include the original versions on top of Special Editions, so it's not entirely out of the realm of possibility.

I'm with Soldier on that one point. Y'all know studios like to milk stuff like this. Largely because "fanboys" will gobble up everything they put out usually. So I foresee some type of "gimped" set here, then a "special edition" later on. Not that I care. I'm not going to get up in arms like the LotR fanboys did. I'm just saying, that seems to be the way they always do it anymore.

Well even in these modern times I don't have a Blue ray player so it doesn't matter that it's coming out like that. I can't afford to replace all my movies from DVD to Blue Ray so I'll stay with DVD. Sound great for the rest of you though.

JL4732d ago

I do have a Blu-ray player (PS3), but with a DVD collection of over 1200 there's absolutely no way in the world I plan on replacing those anytime soon. Even still, DVD is the format I typically buy. I do buy Blu-ray for movies with lots of special effects, though.

That being said, that's one of the beauties about a Blu-ray player, they'll play DVD too. So, no need to upgrade your collection unless you just want to.

On that note, we've given away Blu-ray players before on here. I imagine we'll do it again sometime.

Crazay4732d ago

ya I thought I had a pretty special collection at around 700 like alycakes. I have a decent BluRay collection though - 161

darklordzor4732d ago

I was really surprised by this countdown, mostly because I've been trying to figure out what on Earth they could reveal about it? I mean, they've announced a few of the features already, plus the release date. Oh well, I'm eagerly awaiting!

Crazay4732d ago

I'm eagerly awaiting - I think this is going to be good news for those of us who grew upo watching Star Wars.

darklordzor4732d ago

Hell man, you know how big a Star Wars nerd I am, so imagine my anticipation!

alycakes4732d ago

Only if they throw in scenes that were left out all together...dont' you think?

alycakes4732d ago

JL you've got me beat on your movie collection...last time I counted I only had 673 DVD's that's not counting my old VHS that I just don't want to give up. Believe it or not, I actually have some Beta's...can you believe it?
