Deadline: The search is over. Universal Pictures has formally offered Jeremy Renner the lead role in the Tony Gilroy-directed The Bourne Legacy. Renner, who has been nominated for Oscars the past two years for his work in The Hurt Locker and The Town, is expected to sign on quickly to play a new character in the spinoff film that begins production in September. Like the Jason Bourne character played by Matt Damon in the first three The Bourne Identity thrillers, Renner will play an operative from a covert government program that is even more dangerous than the Treadstone brainwashing program that hatched Bourne.
With the new The Crow remake coming soon, we take a look back at the 30-year-old cult classic original–and where the stars are now.
Kaam Chalu Hai Review: Based on true events, this movie is thought-provoking and inspiring
Rebel Moon Part 2 Review: This movie doesn't feel anything new or worth remembering, which is a shame.
I'm a big fan of Renner's work but spinnoffs have never been my cup of tea when it comes to movies.
A spinnoff is okay as long as they don't try to make him play Matt Damon's Bourne. If he has his own character to create it's okay with me...he's not that young, is he? If he plans on doing all those stunts like Matt, he better start getting into shape.
I like Renner too. Hopefully, he proves he can anchor a big franchise like Bourne.
Renner deserves a shot at the big time, I say let him have it. He's kept a relatively low profile so I don't think it would be too distracting to cast him in this movie. Damon's Bourne character was kind of generic anyways, but I geuss that is the point of the movie.
Big role finally...
