The Media Stomp - Hobo with a Shotgun Review

Jeremy of The Media Stomp wrote, "In 2007 Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino teamed up to give us a back to back experience like no other that was called Grindhouse. It was a throwback to old school films of the 70's and 80's and I enjoyed it! Grindhouse consisted of two films, Planet Terror and Death Proof. In between these films were fake trailers that were made solely for the experience. One trailer that was made ended up getting its own featured film, Machete. But that wasn't enough, they wanted to get the audience involved, so they held a contest where anyone could submit a trailer and whoever won the contest would have their trailer featured in front of select cuts of Grindhouse. The winner was Jason Eisner with his trailer called Hobo with a Shotgun. He got so much praise that he was approached to adapt his own trailer into a featured film. I am here to tell you that Hobo with a Shotgun is one of the most insane films I have ever seen. It's so ridiculous and cheesy and I...

I loved Grindhouse (Death Proof was the best) and Machete was hysterical. I didn't remember this as one of the trailers...good to know. I am looking forward to it. For some reason I don't mind the bloody violence attached to something like this because it is a little over the top and that does kinda make it funny and not scary.

Review: Hobo with a Shotgun 10 years later

A movie with the nuance you might expect from its title.

Hobo with a Shotgun Review

★★★ I only just saw this for the first time, and… Where do I start? This is one weird film and a perfect example of a movie which is so bad that actually it has become pretty good!

At least you gave it a three, but you do realize this movie is a part of the exploitation genre, right? I only ask, because you say: "If you want a film which has little in the way of story, almost no meaningful dialogue, relatively poor acting throughout, awful (and I mean really awful) visual effects, over the top blood & (I would say gore but I’m going to settle on) gloop and an absolute ton of senseless violence, then this is the film for you!" - That's the point. A lot of exploitation cinema is "so bad it's good," and while it's definitely not everybodies cup of tea, it's part of a tribute to a bygone era in filmmaking (which got a serious push in the late 2000s with the callback movie "Grindhouse").
