I’m not quite sure how you go about reviewing a film like Rubber, but by god I’m going to try. Even attempting to give you a brief plot overview is something of a challenge but here it goes. A tire by the name of Robert (yes, you read that right) gains sentience somewhere in the desert. After killing a bird and getting run over by some shmuck in a pickup truck, Robert the tire , as tires are apt to do, goes on a killing rampage. I don’t want to give away too much but I will say that heads explode, kids are mistreated, and people are poisoned in mass amounts.
A film that could have worked on its gloriously absurd premise alone, but reaches too far in its efforts to make a commentary on filmmaking. Full review by Chris Pandolfi.

And that’s before you remind yourself that it’s a movie about a killer tyre."

But I think we are going out on a high note with the two films we have for you this week. Once again we are joined by Brian Salazar from The SEC and we start with a look at the new Simon Pegg/Nick Frost comedy "Paul" where we liked it overall but don't think it lived up to the pedigree of their past films. Then we move into a discussion for Quentin Dupieux's "Rubber", a film about a killer tire that goes on a murderous rampage through a small desert town. I think this is probably the most divisive film we have ever talked about with feelings ranging from best film of the year to complete slack jawed boredom and disbelief. Everywhere I look I keep seeing good reviews about this. With such a stupid premise, I wonder how it could possibly be anything but a major waste of my time. I guess I'm just going to have to risk watching it to find out.
Of course, Idiocracy got a bunch of "it's so stupid that it's brilliant" type of praise and quite frankly I just thought that movie was plain stupid.
The closest thing I could compare it to is a David Lynch film, more Eraserhead than Dune. Believe me, Idocracy it is not.
