3D 'Star Wars: Phantom Menace' Coming February 10, 2012

Deadline says:

SAN FRANCISCO, Calif. (March 3, 2011) – Lucasfilm Ltd. and Twentieth Century Fox announced today that the 3D theatrical launch of Star Wars: Episode I The Phantom Menace now has an official release date – February 10, 2012! Set against the thrilling and exotic backdrop of a “galaxy far, far away,” Star Wars is perfectly suited to the immersive 3D theatrical experience, and Episode I delivers some of the Saga’s most stunning and spectacular sequences – from the Naboo invasion to the Tatooine Podraces to the climactic lightsaber battle between Darth Maul and the Jedi. Supervised by Industrial Light & Magic, the meticulous conversion is being done with utmost respect for the source material, and with a keen eye for both technological considerations and artistic intentions.

Add/remove tag
For future reference, there's no real need to make a separate tag for the 3D version of a movie. The regular tag will work.

Damn you Lucas - This means that all the movies are going to hit theaters again in 3D and then there's going to be ANOTHER boxset that I'll have to buy.

Soldierone4795d ago

I dunno. I see no reason to buy movies (again) in 3D. If you have a 3D tv and are into that type of thing, then by all means do it lol. Otherwise no worries.

Well being a Star Wars fan you might want to. But id just wait for a price drop, then never open them. Especially since im already buying them on Blu ray.

My wife is asking for a 3D TV for her Birthday next month. I'm going to try and make it happen but I dunno that I can.

I am staying away from them. Either they will fade away again, or they will be cheaper within a year or two. For one they are already made the technology to go without glasses, so we just gotta wait for that to develop further now.

I also heard extended period of 3d could hurt your eyes.

Yippee! I'm incredibly excited. One, I didn't hate TPM as much as everyone else. Secondly, the main reason I'm so excited is that this will give me a chance to see all of these movies in the theater with my son.

He already likes the cartoon show, and he pays attention pretty well when I am playing the movies at home, so this would be a cool thing for us to do. My dad took me to see them in the theaters when the Special Editions were re-released in the 90s, so it will be great to share that with my son too.

Ya that's pretty sweet. My daughter will still be far too young this time next year.

Soldierone4795d ago

Awesome! I have no reason to see these in 3D at all. I am only excited because i get to see them in theaters. I never got to see the originals in theaters, so this is extremely exciting to me. Im a huge fan and will be checking them out.

More reason to get my GF to become a Star Wars fan haha! Plus my brothers are huge Star Wars geeks already, they will love it.

@Crazay...Yeah, honestly, I'm still not sure that my boy will be quite old enough yet either. By then he'll be 3, so I'm hoping he can do it. I'm testing him out on Kung Fu Panda 2 this summer, so cross your fingers!

Crazay4795d ago

Nice - My daughter will be 2.5 by the time that movie comes out. Maybe I'll get her to watch them on BluRay with me an be able to take her in 2013 when Episode 2 hits.
