Rob Zombie Talks Lords of Salem

Empire Says

Rob Zombie is in Britain for his first UK tour since the 1990s. Empire was at the awesome Manchester gig (it was, as the man himself says "a lovely party"!) so we thought we'd be remiss not to see what we could find out about Zombie's upcoming horror opus The Lords of Salem.

Shooting starts, if all goes to plan, on April 18th, as soon as he gets home from the tour. He'll then go back out on the rock festival circuit for the summer, edit in the autumn, and expects a release in early 2012.

Is he really going to make another horror film? Try something new jeez.

"The basic premise of the film is that there were a further four who actually were witches, who were killed secretly, and vowed one day to return to wreak havoc on Salem's descendants. That's when the movie jumps ahead to the present day and things start to go wrong..."

Sounds like it could be alright I guess.

I like the concept of this movie and I like Rob Zombie. I know lots of people crapped on his vision of who Michael Myers was but I actually liked seeing the formative years of Myers. As for the Try something new from Zombie, he knows where he belongs so why move on? You honestly think anyone would take him seriously if he were to want to approach something like say Gump and Son? No way.

-MD-4802d ago

I'd take him seriously if it was a good film. Just because he's a creepy, greasy haired rocker doesn't mean he can't be taken seriously in the film industry with a different genre.

I believe he does horror films because he likes horror films. I like Dr Pepper but It's not the only soda I drink you know?

Crazay4802d ago

Understood, however, you know just as well as I do that movie goers are a fickle crowd and the general consensus won't accept him doing anything else.

-MD-4802d ago

I suppose it might be hard for him to break off from horror that's probably true. Maybe he could produce films of other genres to gain a little credit.

All I'm saying is I hate when people do the same thing over and over. Unless it's Guy Ritchie with his heist films (I want...NEED more of those)

JL4802d ago

I agree with Crazay and Soldier on this one. Horror is his thing, he doesn't need to step away from it.

I don't really see what the big deal is. It's not like he's the first to do a genre and stick with it. I don't see people complaining about Wes Craven just doing horror movies. Or Nolan just doing thrillers. Hitchcock was strictly mystery/suspense (well he did one romantic comedy but that sucked so he realized he should stick with what he knew).

Crazay4802d ago

Good points JL. Never though of those guys. Guess that's why you're the guy with all the power on the site. =P

He came into the industry to make horror films, so why should he make anything else. Its what he is good at, even his music is horror style lol. I dont mind his stuff, its not brilliant, but its not horrible.

JL4802d ago

Agreed. Horror is his genre. Whether it be his music or his movies. It's what he's good at, thus what he really should stick to.

And no, his movies aren't brilliant, but I indeed very much like them.

Crazay4802d ago

I love Horror movies so for me it's a total non-issue. I need to see more people who are dedicated to the Horror genre to keep me happy.

=)

Sunny_D4801d ago

Some directors are just adapted to one type of genre. That they don't know how to start anywhere. But, people like Steven Spielberg and James Cameron are good at changing.

Soldierone4802d ago

Things could get interesting now that Slash is trying to compete with him in horror. Both of them making horror stuff, i wonder which side will win.

-MD-4802d ago

Slash is making movies? Seriously...

Crazay4802d ago

He is? When did that revelation happen?

JL4802d ago

That was announced last year.

As far as I know he doesn't have any intention of directing any movies, he just started a production company and he intends to produce horror movies. By that, I'm guessing he'll just be like executive producer.

Soldierone4802d ago

It will be similar to how Michal Bay does the horror movies. It has his name on it, but he doesnt really have any say in the production. I do believe he is helping write them though, since they are coming from his ideas.

Senden4801d ago

After seeing his take on Halloween 2.. I can only say that nobody in hollywood should ever let this guy make a horror movie again. I'm not really enjoyed any of his films.. house of a thousand corpses is the most misleading title i've ever seen.. it's like Texas Chainsaw Massacre in a carnival.. and a poor one at that!

Crazay4801d ago

I agree with you about House of 1000 Corpses. I thought it was going to be much more of a horror movie than it actually was but I liked the Halloween movies. He was respectful to some of the source material and added his own spin and background to it which I liked.

JL4801d ago

I've liked everything he's done. That includes House of 1000 corpses.

Not sure what was misleading about the title. Did you expect 1000 people to get killed in the movie? I think that's in reference to: that family has been doing it so long that they have tons of murders under their belt. Corpses piled up in secret places.

Soldierone4801d ago

i kinda felt mislead too. It wasnt so much horror, it had its horror aspects, but was all about gore and grusom visuals. The beginning had horror aspect, and the end had horror aspects, but thats it really.

Still it was a Halloween story and for being that it wasn't bad at all. I liked the visuals and the style he put on it, just dont expect it to be horror.

Senden4801d ago

The original remake was decent enough but I thought the second one was terrible. Loved the first scene in the hospital but it was just down hill after that. The ending was unforgivable too.
