'Twilight' Writer Melissa Rosenberg Takes Over Summit's 'Highlander' Script

Heat Vision says:

Melissa Rosenberg

After taking on vampires in Summit’s Twilight Saga, writer Melissa Rosenberg is tackling a different kind of immortal being: Scottish highlanders.

The scribe is in negotiations to come on board to work on the studio's remake of Highlander. Neal Moritz is producing the project, which offers an update on the 1986 movie starring Christopher Lambert, Sean Connery and Clancy Brown. Justin Lin (Fast Five) is attached to direct. Noooooooooooo! My beloved Highlander series, please don't Twilight it up!

Crazay4823d ago

AHAHAHAH - I was wondering how long it would take for someone to pipe up with that comment. You have not disappointed DLZ.

I agree that it could be very...pretty the next time around with less of the burly men and more pretty-boy types. Here's hoping that chopping off someone's head and taking their powers doesn't result in Rainbows filling the sky.

Just imagining the Kurgan with eye-liner and glitter on his cheeks is bringing tears to my eyes.

I never really cared for the Highlander series. Just couldn't get into it, wasn't appealing to me.

Allow me to possibly give you some relief though, Dark. Rosenberg here wasn't the woman that wrote the books. She just wrote the screenplays. The whole glittery and other "girlie" stuff actually came from the books so Rosenberg can't be blamed for that. She has also wrote plenty episodes of Dexter. So, there are some goods things that came from her writing.

@JL

Yeah, I know all of those things. I actually did an article on my site yesterday morning which went over all of her strong points for why she wouldn't be a bad choice for it...just not my first choice. No, I totally blame Stephanie Meyer for Twilight, it's just fun to mess with.

Highlander is a movie I saw when I was younger, and it made a big impression on me. I've been a fan for a long time, so I feel very protective of it for some reason.

Rosenberg isn't my first choice, but I think she could do it justice. Besides she should only be touching up the script, since the first drafts were written by a couple other guys.

Ah ok. It is fun to have a go at anything Twilight related. I must ashamedly admit I've seen the first two (not by choice lol) and my friends like to give me crap about that from time to time.

But yea, I just thought I'd point that out for everyone since "Twilight Writer" might be a tad bit misleading.

Wow this got me thinking. I just need to adapt a book thats attractive to teenage girls and get it out with some pretty boy actors in theaters. It doesn't have to be good, but my career will surely take off. haha

Seriously why has Twilight changed everything. I understand why girls are seeing etc...but it has nothing to do with the film itself. The books had a following, which lead to girls following it even more.

I hope this movie doesnt have any "Twilight" effect and she actually shows us she can write a good movie instead.
