The Woman is written, directed, and portrayed with a heavy hand. When everything is done with speakers blasting, and not just the soundtrack, then it is hard to have any moment of surprise without blowing an eardrum. There are some scary parts, and some body parts, and some parts that try to be funny, and all the parts try to be great, poignant commentary together. But it just doesn’t work.
Planet of Terror:
The Woman is a film that had already gained notoriety long before it became available recently via VOD services. Sundance premiere freak out notwithstanding (if you have no idea what I'm talking about, click here), it has played to many a film festival and has elicited strong reactions from both hardcore horror fans and Joe Friday movie goers alike. It's on my short list of films I didn't get to see last year and I'm glad I finally got to just a few days ago. But I'm not sure where I sit with this film as its swirled around inside my noggin' these past few days. Visceral, brutal and ultimately strange, The Woman is without a doubt a film that will stay with you long after the credits roll.

The horror genre has always been embroiled in controversy, and the dark, hardcore thriller The Woman is no exception.
Written/directed by cult horror filmmaker Lucky McKee – based on a novel he co-wrote with author Jack Ketchum- The Woman tells the story of a warped country lawyer (Sean Bridges) who attempts to civilise a feral cannibal woman (Pollyanna McIntosh), in the process placing his family in jeopardy.
