Hans Zimmer Scoring 'Superman'? Not So Fast

Last week it was reported that Hans Zimmer, composer of Christopher Nolan’s Batman movies, was given the task to score the new Superman reboot. However at last nights Inception DVD/Blue ray release he has quoted quite the opposite.

I'm not sure how I feel honestly. I love John Williams nad his score is classic, but at the same time, with them trying to reboot Superman I feel like I wanted an entirely new experience right down to the score. Look at the new Batman movies, they didn't use the score from the first film, and it's still just as iconic.

I don't know, I feel very torn. If they're going to reboot entirely and try to start something new and seperate from what's been done before, they don't need any ties to the original.

I agree that they need to fully reboot it if they're going to do it. This includes the theme as well. John Williams is awesome, and that theme is iconic, but indeed they just need to completely break free from the past Superman to reboot this properly. Indeed Batman is a good example for how it's not going to ruin it.

To note, though, just because Zimmer says he isn't doing it, doesn't mean anything. In fact, there's still plenty time for Nolan (or Snyder) to come to him to do it. If not Zimmer, then there are plenty others. I would almost bet that, in the end, Nolan or Snyder will approach someone to completely re-theme Superman much like was done with Batman.

Feel torn too, huge fan of Zimmers work, but love the Williams score. As soon as you hear that music you think Superman. I just don't know, but if I had to pick between a new theme and Williams, I would go with Williams, although I like the thought of a complete reinvention of Supes, out of all the big screen superman movies Williams theme is about the only thing that worked in everyone of them, so my argument would be why fix what isn't broken.
But do also agree with you guys too. Hard one

Replace the best with the 2nd or 3rd or 4th best is not good... Williams has more talent for this job and can bring a fresh feel and sound to super man if her wants to and do it better than Zimmer...

Zimmer is good but he is nothing near the talent of Williams...

darklordzor4880d ago

Agreed, but there's no telling if Williams would come back for it. He could make great new songs, but he might not be available. For some reason I want to say he's retired now....

JL4880d ago

Oh he's far from retired. He's still very much working. His most recent work: Deathly Hallows. So that means he's also busy with Part 2. Also he did something for the soon-to-be-released Gulliver's Travels. He's also working on scoring a new Star Wars TV series as well as the Rin Tin movie and War Horse.

I'd say his plate is pretty full. And I'm not even sure he'd want to revisit Superman to come up with a completely new theme.

My best guess is Snyder will, in fact, bring in Tyler Bates to do the score for the movie (if Nolan doesn't push for Zimmer) as Bates has done the score for all but one of Snyder's movies so far.

Argh! How could I forget that. I don't know why I had it in my head he had retired. I must be thinking of someone else.

I just don't think he'd be able to come back for this...He may want to, but I seriously doubt he would. Besides, Snyder is going to want to do whatever he wants.
