Another Year Review - WGTC

Kicking up a critical storm way back in May at the Cannes Film Festival, British filmmaker Mike Leigh’s new film Another Year was hotly tipped to take the big prize: the Palme d’Or. I like watching independent films sometimes. I might have to keep an eye on this one in the near future. I mean big budget movies don't get perfect scores, yet this does. It must be doing something right.

BoxOfficeMagazine: This touching and beautifully nuanced drama from England's master of cinematic improvisation, Mike Leigh, depicts a collection of lonely characters revolving around a happy middle-aged couple. The ensemble acting is of a high caliber. It has been given a rapturous welcome at the Cannes Film Festival, touted as his best work since Secrets and Lies (1996) but it may have difficulty reaching beyond Leigh devotees.
