Metzen on WoW Movie: “We Are Going to do it Right”

VG247: "Did you think we were going to get some crappy tie-in for World of Warcraft with Sam Raimi at the realm? This is Blizzard we’re talking about.

Blizzard loremaster Chris Metzen just gave a status update on the WoW movie at a Blizzcon panel, saying it’s held meetings with Raimi about the flick and its story."

The story is too old to be commented.

Actually the fact that you said Sam Raimi and Blizzard in the same sentance made me beleive this will be nothing more than a cash cow game tie in, that has nothing more than the name on it.

Sure it wont be liked by fans, and to be honest you could try your absolute hardest and fans will still nit pick and destroy the film.

Cash Tauren.

But in any case, this is one of the best news for ages. They've announced this for what... like 3 years? I am happy to see the plan is finally becoming real.

The only hard part is the gnomes... wonder how they're gonna pull that off

Soldierone2234d ago

Arent Gnomes like little people, Frodo, in Lord of the Rings? I dont play WoW I only played the older real Warcraft games So Im not sure.

Kiri2234d ago

Gnomes are like... Verne Troyer with a sharp voice.

Soldierone2234d ago

Oh well either way it should be a problem. Its all about camera angle, enviroment settings and what not to make one person bigger or smaller than the other. Then the voice can just be edited in later, but i dont think they would make it that annoying or people will hate it.

still this movie should be big for Hollywood purely based on its name and nothing more.

Kiri2234d ago

Just hope it doesn't turn out to be like Avatar. It was awesome, but only for once.

Soldierone2234d ago

I have a feeling visuals are gonna be a huge role in this one, yeah going way out on a ledge on that one huh? However its coming down to how much of a visonary Rami is and he has been proven to not be capable of going this big before. I dont know if i have faith he can do it or not. This is like Lord of the Ring big and is going to take tons of work and concept art.

As for the Story, we all know Warcraft Lore is massive full of stories at every angle. It depends what story he goes after and how deep he wants to go. The fact of the matter is it can be boring like Avatar or exciting. I just think he will play the name more than anything, thus a new director will step in for a new WoW movie and be creative with it.

Gnomes aren't that hard, just look at how they pulled it off in the Lord of the Rings movies. Besides, in a WoW adaptation, how much do you really think they'll focus on the gnomes? More than likely they'll focus on the humans vs. orcs storyline that is so prevalent.

Soldierone2233d ago

I dont play WoW but I know alot about the older games. Do you honestly think it will be the Humans vs Orcs storyline, or is there some other big Lore that will be the lead story.

In a way I was hoping this one would be more fantasy like.

darklordzor2232d ago

Well, humans vs. orcs have almost always been the big lore and even though WoW uses several other races, they are still somewhat ancillory, with Humans and Orcs still leading the forefront. A lot of undead are making big story changes, so maybe they'll go with something like that in order to differentiate it from LOTR.

I am highly against this movie. Sure it's a great game, but the problem is, no fan would ever be satisfied with it. The best way to make fans happy for a WoW movie, would be to have Blizzard make it, totally in CGI. That's what would make the masses happy. Instead they're more than likely going to something half-baked from the studios. I have faith in Sam Raimi, but he's got so much on plate right now, would this really get the attention it deserves?

Soldierone2233d ago

Its nothing more than a namebrand thing. Also good news for you is Blizzard plans to release CGI based films. They announced something about tying together the cutscenes and making short films out of their games for DVD and Blu-ray releases for the fans.

darklordzor2232d ago

Yeah, but I wouldn't call that good news. They said they wanted to do hour long cutscenes cut together for Starcraft 2, but that they would charge like $20-$30 for them. Not a good deal. Just give us a good CG movie from blizzard, for a normal price and it would be much better. Just look at all the cinematic intros they do and it's hard to deny.
