Rhys Ifans to Play Spider-Man Villain Opposite Andrew Garfield

Sony has announced that Rhys Ifans (Notting Hill) will be playing a villain in the next Spider-Man movie starring Andrew Garfield (The Social Network) as Spider-Man and Emma Stone (Easy A) as Gwen Stacy.

Interesting that they announce the actor but not the character. I figure they would have put it out there in order to help build some more hype. I just hope it's a decent villain that hasn't been used yet. I think they should try and stay away from the Green Goblin but then again he does look like he could fit that part. Maybe they will stick with The Vulture like Spidey 4 was going to do. Who knows?

Young vulture? Maybe Mysterio? How about Kraven? He doesn't look like your typical Spider-villain.

I hope its Vulture or some secondary character, otherwise my hopes for this film just went slightly downhill....

We broke the news on Rhys on our Facebook and Twitter sites earlier, The Lizard is the bad guy in the early drafts of the script, but may not be the only bad guy and is subject to change.

Thats what I thought. The Lizard isn't strong enough at all to be the only or main villian though. Even in the cartoons he was always a secondary villian, had maybe 2 episodes where it was mainly him.
