20 Must See Movies To Share With Your Kids

Cinemablend: When it comes to children there are only two kinds of movies: The kind you show them to shut them up and the kind you share with them in the hopes they'll remember them for the rest of their lives. By the time my firstborn is six or seven, he or she will have seen more than his or her fair share of Nutty Professors or Shrek Forever Afters, and that's fine. But once your kids are old enough to remember, it becomes important to make sure you're also showing them something better.

Hmm let's see:
Willy Wonka--yea that's a classic, definitely worth it. I don't see the need to downplay the Burton/Depp rendition though, it was a good movie in it's own rights, just a bit of a reimagining than the original was. Both are good though and stick to the book in their own way

AbsentMinded/LoveBug/MaryPopp ins/SwissFamily/ShaggyDog/Pare ntTrap--a bunch of classics that would always make for good views with the kids. I'd probably also throw in some others like Oliver!, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Freaky Friday, Doctor Dolittle, The Sound of Music, Apple Dumpling Gang etc.

The Incredibles--I think this goes along the same lines as the lists does with Disney. I agree that any of the Disney animated movies are great choices, as well I'd say all Pixar movies.

KungFuPanda/TrainYourDragon-- All good, though DreamWorks kinda falls under the same category as Disney/Pixar. Plenty from their collection that would be great for the kids. They have more duds than Disney or Pixar but still have good ones like the above mentioned and Shrek (which is probably their best), Chicken Run, Antz, Bee Movie, Madagascar, Flushed Away, etc.

Hook--it was alright. Don't think I'd put it as "must-see" necessarily. Especially since you have the superior Peter Pan included under Disney. Do have fond memories of Hook though and liked it alright as a kid. Bangarang Pan! But not a must-see, and definitely not to the point of needing the story in there twice with Disney's Peter Pan included already.

The Storyteller I've never seen. And can't say I've ever seen any Abbott and Costello flicks either (yet I'm still fully aware of the Who's on First skit).

Godzilla really? That just seems lame and weird in there.

Shrunk the kids was a fun movie back when I was a kid.

Old Yeller--absolute must. Everybody should have that in their history of films watched. Not a man alive that can't say he didn't cry to that and all following generations should be put through that heartache as well.

Muppets are always good for the kids.

Mighty Ducks really? That's a must-see? I don't think so. I enjoyed it, but not must-see. And really it's a crappy movie. You want an "overcoming the odds, misfit sports movie" then hands-down put Bad News Bears in there rather than Mighty Ducks.

Flight of the Navigator was cool as a kid. Not that great or must-see, but good nonetheless.

E.T.: How do you put Flight of the Navigator but completely miss ET? ET is an absolute must-see for the kids.

Wizard of Oz: Another absolute classic that tops the list of must-see movies to watch with the kids.

Bad News Bears: A much better "misfits who overcome the odds" movie than Might Ducks that should be shared with our younger generations.

Babe/Charlotte's Web/The Incredible Journey/Milo and Otis/Benji/Lassie Come Home: All great animal flicks that the kids will love and the whole family can enjoy.

Who Framed Roger Rabbit?
Big
The Princess Bride
Goonies
Home Alone
Ghostbusters
Back to the Future
Gremlins

Few "weird" ones that I remember as a kid (not necessarily must-see though):
Legend
The Dark Crystal
Labyrinth
Willow

Couple other animated ones outside of Disney/Dreamworks/Pixar:
Fern Gully
Secret of Nimh
An American Tail
The Iron Giant

The of course you have holiday must-see movies:
A Christmas Story
Wonderful Life
Miracle on 34th Street
Charlie Brown Christmas and Halloween specials
A Christmas Carol/Scrooged
National Lampoon's Christmas
Frosty the Snowman
Rudolph

And I'm sure I'm missing several here.
Plenty here to choose from though that are far more deserving than some of those on that list. ESPECIALLY the ones I named previously like absolute classics like ET and Wizard of Oz.
