Before the Marvel Cinematic Universe, otherwise known as the MCU, became a thing, Marvel Studios got started with tidy, entertainingly self-contained adventures like Iron Man and, to a much lesser extent, The Incredible Hulk. But things began to change somewhat with the release of Iron Man 2 in 2010, the studio starting to rather obviously be planning something bigger, planting little tidbits of extra information that hinted towards the larger comic book universe everything was building towards.
