With fans and critics divided on the quality of David Ayer's Bright but the film being a success, does this mean that film criticism is dying?

Nope — Bright is a piece of trash and fans are too easily pleased

Dynisty2299d ago

That's not the point of the article lol. It's that viewers don't care that much about negative reviews anymore.

What you said is exactly the point. The real question is: Were critics EVER relevant? I don't think so. I watch what I like. I play what I like. And oh, yeah, I enjoy what I like. Weird that.

Imagine if I listened to critics and missed out on: The Original Blade Runner, Star Wars: A New Hope, Fight Club, Psycho, ... lol

You could spend hours literally destroying the critics but what good would it do. They (for the most part) are self inflated walking egos who think their opinions matter. Yet, none can prove that critics have contributed to the human endeavor. All they do is try to ruin something they couldn't build, create, or imagine in a lifetime.

Then again maybe Bright was actually good and you're just too hard to please.

Critics suck, they act as if their opinion is the be all end all.

Plenty of enjoyable movies in the 7.0 range including Anime. It's just that film snobs are blind. I think some highly rated movies are overrated but i don't go around screaming about it.

Movie taste can be quite subjective, just like taste in comedy. If you follow review scores like a blind sheep then that's the worst way to be. I don't let reviews dictate whether i enjoy or hate a film.

Critical reviews don't mean as much for Netflix released movies. You aren't paying anything extra for it. You're only potentially wasting 2 hours of your time. It isn't the same as wasting money going to see a movie that is crap in the theater.

SarcasticDuck2299d ago

so you're saying a movie is good or bad based on how much you pay to see it?

SarcasticDuck2299d ago

I watched it last night and it's an okay movie. It has its flaws and the racism angle is stupid af but it can entertain you for 2h if you don't have better things to do (or watch). If you watch a lot of stuff, It's one of those movies you won't remember in a month's time unless someone mentions it!

I think the only time people pay attention to movie reviews is for a movie theater showing, since they're not only paying a hefty chunk of money for the whole movie theater experience, but they're usually making an evening out of it. There's no real risk involved with a Netflix movie. If it's a bad movie, you can just stop watching it. No money lost, no real time lost, no big deal.

I think The Last Jedi proves it more
