An argument can be made that Mom and Dad is something of a Purge rip off. To provide some context, The Purge franchise is set in a universe in which the rather unpleasant political party called the New Founding Fathers of America have instituted the titular custom, which legalizes crimes save those committed against government officials of a certain rank for a 12-hour period on an annual basis. Perhaps unsurprisingly, the purge results in the sort of horrors that one would expect from something so outlandish, but the most ridiculous part is how it is supposed to have solved a number of the United States's social problems. Regardless, Mom and Dad makes use of a number of elements that show up in The Purge franchise, enough so that an argument can be made that Mom and Dad is a Purge rip off of sorts.
