Blade Runner 2049 Was Always Going To Bomb

SR

Blade Runner 2049 may be a hit with critics but it’s not so lucky at the box office. Despite glowing reviews, strong word of mouth and an A- Cinemascore, Denis Villeneuve’s sequel is faring comparably to Ridley Scott’s 1982 original, now a cult classic but at the time a notorious flop. But this was only ever to be expected – and isn’t as disastrous as it sounds.

It was phenomenal. Old school sci fi. The original was also amazing.

"Always going to bomb" WTF have you been smoking?

#1 at the box office destroying the competition: 31 million with the number 2 slot only garnering 10 mil?

You are a moron.

It may have been #1 at the box office, but those numbers aren't very promising considering how it's been estimated to have a budget of $150-$185 million.

That was domestic (US only.)

Right...still comparatively low to other titles with such a budget. Total box office is resting at $90 mil too. That suggests a likelihood of just paying back its budget until DVD/Blu-Ray sales happen.

I really have to see this; I might have to watch it a few times in theaters, actually. We need to ensure Denis Villeneuve continues this amazing streak of movies.

Metacritic... if you trust their review averaging system... has it at 81.

No where near a flop if you ask me.

Metacritic means nothing, this is a business. The movie reportedly had a budget of 150 million, you need to double that on regard of advertising and distribution, maybe even more... So it needs around 400 million just to break even. The movie opens with 30 million over the weekend in USA, that's bad, that's terrible in fact: it's just going down from here. They're saying that only Asia can save this now... I don't think so.
Oh, I'm depressed. I hate modern audiences
