As the largest oil spill in U.S. history and one of the world’s most devastating man-made disasters, the implosion of the Deepwater Horizon oil rig in 2010 killed 11 people and devastated the Louisiana coastline.

A Mark Wahlberg-led disaster film adapting these events may sound like an outlandish prospect, but “Deepwater Horizon” still makes for a remarkable spectacle, if not one in need of a deeper human element.
