Film Starts Here: “Masterpiece” is not something one would expect to hear when describing a film written and directed by Paul Greengrass. While he has a few worthwhile films (The Bourne Ultimatum, Captain Phillips), nothing on his filmography stands out as a masterpiece. Not even United 93. Even so, United 93 is a masterpiece whether it stands out or not. It is not the greatest film ever and it does not stand near the greatest films ever. It is not the greatest story ever and it has never been seen that way. It isn’t a mastepiece like The Godfather is a masterpiece.
