Interesting read. To be honest when I saw the movie I didnt think it was anywhere near as bad as people had made out. In saying that, the DC universe had a point of difference from Marvel after the Batman trilogy. After BvS though, it felt like they threw that away and tried to just make a marvel film... it just wasn't as good as a marvel film.

LetoAtreides822828d ago

No I don't think they tried to "make a marvel film". BvS felt so different from the Marvel films. BvS felt so serious, while the Marvel films are usually funnier except for Captain America 3 which went into depressive mode (and yet it was good thanks to the great characters and action). I like both the DC films and the Marvel films though I must say the Marvel films feel more polished/professionally done to me.

Inzo2827d ago

Marvel has had some howlers, the dark world, the Hulk, the incredible Hulk, F4 1 2 & 3, Wolverine origins all come to mind and Batman vs Superman is better than each one of them.

-Foxtrot2828d ago

It's really not

Can't we just admit when something is bad instead of coming up with excuses.

basilboxer2828d ago

I've never seen so many excuses for a poor movie. How man directors cuts and special edition cinema runs does a movie need to try and make it better than the original edit?

Deadpooled2827d ago (Edited 2827d ago )

It's the DC excuse, same with Watchmen and now with this. I saw BvS in cinema a week after release (literally only 10 people watched in a very popular and busy cinema at peak time, and I saw why), the directing particularly for the first half was sloppy as parts were cut out (as proven in the ultimate edition which explains things far better), but the action was great especially the batman fight scenes. But too much lois lane spoiled the film for me

hirobrotagonist2827d ago

The "original" edit was actually done pretty close to release because the studio was forcing Snyder to make a shorter runtime. I enjoyed the original movie, but the Ultimate Edition is amazing and it literally takes away any plothole complaints or lack of visible character motivations. People just like to complain about things that get hyped up when they don't have anything else to compare it to. Sorry it's not a Marvel movie guys.

gangsta_red2828d ago

A cult classic because the movie was so bad it's good?

X-Alchemist2828d ago

starting to agree with you more and more

hirobrotagonist2827d ago

Batman V Superman Ultimate Cut is one of the best superhero movies I've ever seen. I'm not making excuses. It's called an opinion. Most of the complaints are just comparing to Marvel and that obviously shows the flawed opinions of those that really disliked the film.

I wouldn't say a cult classic. I was disappointed with the theatrical release but actually quite enjoyed the Ultimate cut. It made the editing feel less choppy and the flow of the movie ran much smoother. I wouldn't say it deserves half the flak it gets but it by no means was a perfect movie. Having so many writers of drastically different calibers working on it definitely hurt it in the end.

big_dom_returns2828d ago

A cult classic? LOL

Don't cult classics generally have to be, you know, good films?

Deadpooled2827d ago

Not necessarily, the wicker man is a cult, the goonies (which I love btw but can see why it's hated by some) is a cult classic, rambo 3 (imo my favourite rambo film) is a cult classic)....

big_dom_returns2827d ago

You think The Goonies is a bad film and that's why it has a cult following? The Goonies is a classic because its a good film.

Oh, and looks like a angered a few fanboys. Boo-ums!

I just watched the Ulitmate Edition, and it does a better job at presenting the movie. the editing is better. My problems with the movie are: SPOILERS

1) The reason Batman and Superman fight:
The entire movie is focused on how Superman is dangerous and if become evil, he would wipe the entire world. Lex spends the entire movie setting traps on everyone so that people think Superman is at fault of everything that happens and that it should be stopped. Batman is the one that wants to stop Superman, however when the capitol explodes, he realizes that Lex is behind everything! He has no reason to fight Superman anymore, so why was he still pissed?! Then, the stupid godzilla moment "let them fight".

2) The reason Superman and Batman stop fighting:
Louis Lane spends the entire movie finding out who is behind everything and at the end of the movie she finds out Lex is the one to blame for the chair explosion and everything else, and that Superman had nothing to do with any of it. Lois should have been the one to stop them when they were fighting. She should have said: "Hey stop! I recently found out that Lex is behind everything! You have no reason to fight! So that they become friends and whatnot. After than, Superman should have gone to Lex to try and stop it but he would have said: Oh! wait! I kidnapped your mother, and so Batman helps him like he did anyways. (but by that time, Lex had created Doomsday, so Superman should be busy trying to stop that).

3) Doomsday:
The movie should have been about Superman and Batman fighting. The fight should have lasted like 30-40 minutes and after they realize that Lex is behind everything, the movie should have ended. Wonder Woman should have only been a cameo just to setup Justice League and that's it. That way, they could have leave Doomsday to its own movie.

4) Superman dying:
Really, another pretend death in a comic book movie? How original!

Porcelain_Chicken2828d ago

Wait, how did Bruce find out about Lex after the Capitol scene?! I don't remember seeing that, I could be wrong though.

And Lois did stop them! She told him about his Martha! xD Then Supes told Batman about Lex.

I disagree about Doomsday! Batman and Superman fighting wasn't just about punches and kicks but about ideologies! Both have the same gig of being a superhero but both take very different routes, be it by inspiring hope or inflicting fear. Thus partly why they came to blows. Doomsday is really not a great villain. The only reason people know him is because he is the one to kill Superman first, but really most of Superman's villains can kill him. Doomsday is a big brute who multiple heroes can beat up. He needs little introduction and can actually be killed off. He's not interesting whatsoever so he served his purpose well here. He wouldn't be able to hold his own movie. He'd be like Galactus in FF2.

Agree with number 4 completely! :/ That schit got old 5 Marvel movies ago.

colonel1792827d ago

Yes. When he is watching the news about the explosion, he requests the checks that were supposed to go to the guy in the wheelchair, but he notices that they all had messages written buy Lex (they are from Lex, not the guy in the wheelchair). That's why he knows that Lex is behind the explosion. (Which everybody was blaming on Superman for not doing anything at all).

Prince-Ali pretty much covered it. Bruce didn't know Alex was behind the news papers he thought they were from Wally Keefe (wheelchair guy). Lex set Wally up in order to further fuel Bruce's anger towards Supes. And nobody blamed Superman for not doing anything, he saved a lot of people. Everyone knew it was Wally they just didn't know if Superman was his accomplice or not. Bruce did have suspicions of Lex at this point but there was nothing concrete. Superman was his number one enemy at this point.

colonel1792827d ago

That's a very valid point and one that makes sense. Still, I would have really liked that Lex didn't kidnap Louis Lane so that the fight between Batman and Superman happened because of that anger Bruce had, and not because Lex kindapped Superman's mother (which is just tacked on and didn't make sense). Like I wrote in my previous comment, the kidapping of her mother should have happened after the fight, not being the reason of the fight.

All in all, I just hope Goyer is out of the picture because he sucks so bad!
