From Cinelinx:
The level of hatred lobbied against 2016's Ghostbusters is enough to suggest that it should be an extremely controversial film, yet it is totally benign. What is really going on?
With the new The Crow remake coming soon, we take a look back at the 30-year-old cult classic original–and where the stars are now.
Kaam Chalu Hai Review: Based on true events, this movie is thought-provoking and inspiring
Rebel Moon Part 2 Review: This movie doesn't feel anything new or worth remembering, which is a shame.
I didn't hate it, but even as a perfectly serviceable summer comedy, it is not the fanservice that fans of Ghostbusters deserve. It just seemed like another Feig comedy.
Naturally this had to turn into a feminist topic as EVERYTHING that has anything to do with nerd culture does these days, but honestly my friends and I couldn't have cared less about the actual decision to use an all-female cast. It was more that it seemed to be a Ghostbusters movie that paid no homage to the originals.
People always like to bring up the excuse for all the hate for this movie is the all female cast but that is not the problem. The movie is just not good imo and thats why its getting alot of hate, I mean if it was good then people would love it. Just look at the reviews on IMDB and see whats being said about the movie as a whole.
This movie felt like a parody or spoof of ghostbusters more than anything else and in that regard it still failed. My girlfriend wanted to walk out of the theater like an hour into it, many others did walk out and this is happening alot. The cast was good but for some reason the acting was poor, the script was horrible, etc.
I knew from the trailers it was going to be bad but not this bad but me being a diehard ghostbusters fan I paid and wasted my money. Lastly those first 5 reviewers were paid to say positive things about this movie that was a shameful thing for them to do.
It's an inspired, badly written movie made by untalented Hollywood hacks and it just flopped. Your damage control train has derailed.
You got the cast singing songs calling original Ghostbusters fans virgins & living in their mothers basement & the director & Tom Rothman pretty much shitting on the same fans how can the hate not add up ?
I don't get why they went all female personally and expected it to not be a big deal. There were so many iterations of a new Ghostbusters movie for years and people were upset we got this one. I think it's fair treatment given how uttery awful the movie has been rated on it's own merits.
